I've got about a dozen boxes of Federal hulls (paper base wad) that I'll load once and then throw away. After that I've been looking at buying some primed Cheddite hulls to keep as reloading stock.
How to the Cheddites hold up to reloading? What might be an average number of reloads one could expect of them? |

I load federals 4-5x with good luck and will take off your hands as many once-fired as you have.
The 16g Cheddite is excellent, and I get 5-6x reloads. On firing they blow all the way open and are so easy to re-wad. I switched to low brass cheddites, easier to re-size and last just as long. A little cheaper. Here's a terrific clays load I use in sporting tournements all the time:
Cheddite 16g hull + win 209 primer
Unique 22 grns, + Gualandi (BP) 16 wad 8300/1240
hope it helps, Rizzy |

Last summer I shot multi hulls, whitch are cheddite. I shot them 9 times. Now I trimmed off a 1/4" of the mouth(they were getting a little ragged) and now have loaded them with 3/4 oz as a 2 1/2" shell. So far the rest of the case and the base wad seam to be in perfect condition.

That's a great idea. Using fillers is such a hassel for 3/4 and 7/8 oz loads.
I saw pix of a good cutting tool on this site-somewhere!
I am reluctant to change the height settings on my 16g MEC9000
for 3 crimp stations, but I guess it just takes trying. Rizzy |

Rizzini,
I don't think you can load 2-1/2" hulls on the MEC9000. |

I emailed MEC and you are correct. |
