It looks like a great day, hunting, and the scenery looks outstanding.
JonP....here comes the next generation...
My son's first woodcock.... taken with a 1920's Iver Johnson Champion single....16 ga. of course.
Eric also managed 2 grouse, and a chuckar with the 'Iver this fall.
Having said that, these days he is more intrigued with the his new Browning Twelvette he got in Janaury.

Now THAT'S the future!!! Good to see. Its kind of sad here in the east-we just don't have the numbers of young people going into the shooting sports.

| I've found if you just invite them to shoot some skeet or clays, most of 'em get the bug and want to do it again and again. The next step to live birds is a natural! Everybody knows a neighbor kid, or some non-shooting friend's kid, not to mention your own kid or nephew or grandkid.... what kid (ESPECIALLY male) doesn't want to shoot a gun?? Just invite them and watch the hook get set!! |

Ajax, that is awesome to see! I wish I had someone young to introduce to hunting, but all my nephews have shown no interest. The iver johnson single looks like a blast too; makes me want to use one.  |

Eric's interest started with the 'Iver. It had been kicking around (since '52 literally) and he decided that it would be fun to take it apart. That lead to him decieding that it would be fun to try his hand at re-blueng, and then refinishing the stock. (An Iver single, while classic American, is perfect for this, please no notes about ruining the value.)
Being in Canada the shooting and hunting have to wait (no gun carrying until 14, and then only a shared gun with an adult)...but building up the gun built up the desire.
What started as a tinker project has resulted in an interested "next generation".
I must confess that working with him through these stages has reinvigorated me as well.

Had to post to just say what a wonderful picture.
You might almost say "what a bute". Sorry about the bad joke!
I really envy you shooting in such magnificent scenary. Anyway you're now famous in this household in England as I've used your picture as my computer background scene. Hope you don't mind.
