Back in the mid 1980s, I drifted away from wing shooting, and put my bloodletting efforts into spring gobbler season and fishing. I sold my bird guns, the doubles. The one double that I missed the most was my 16 gauge pre-war Sauer. It was made in 1934. It was as light as a feather with a well-figured Monte Carlo stock, ejectors and cocking indicators. This past fall, I was re-bitten by the dove bug and began to look for a 16 gauge double. An old friend offered me a Philadelphia Fox Sterlingworth 16 in pristine condition, but I declined. After looking at the available American made sixteens for months, I realized I wouldn’t find a better gun in this condition, and bought it. I'm expecting my shipment of Polywad Vintagers and Doublewides any day now. I hope I look as good as it does when I’m 85 years old. Wink

Trigg,
Thanks. I believe I will. The shells arrived yesterday and if the weather permits, I plan on taking my daughter out to shoot a few rounds.

Enjoy.

Glad to note your daughter's participation, family shoots are more fun.

Gil, welcome.

Owning a 16 bore gun is not required to belong to our society.

So, as long as you never forgot that the beloved 16 is the queen of the upland game fields, you never really left the fold after all. Isn't that a comfort?

Thanks, Folks, for the welcome. The first gun I bought was a Sweet 16 A-5. That was almost 40 years ago.
