I saw this posted over on Doublegunshop.com. The L. C. Smith crowd should be pleased, the Parker and Fox folks, not so much. There is an American made 16 gauge in the group. Don't know how they arrived with these ten. Someone may have done more research than I did.

Maybe the Fox and Parker prices will start to drop now!!! --lol.

Or more than likely, Elsies will just climb in price.

Without a play-off system in place, there will always be a question of who is number 1. Who in the heck did Purdy ever play against that was in the top ten? Wink Gil

Why would you believe anything someone says, with a name like "Phil Bourjaily". Wink I never heard of the guy. Confused

He is a prolific writer and the shotgun editor for Field and Stream.

I dont care much for his picks but he is not the usual non sports hack that writes this stuff.

He has written articles for F and s on the 50 best shotguns of all time and also the worst....I seem to remember the Rem 870 16 ga pump on a 12 ga frame and the Marlin bolt action goose gun as two of them.

Looking at the photos of Model 21 reminded me just how much I don't like them.

I wanted to up-grade my field grade Elsie to a monogram until I found out what the cost was. Embarassed

I don't know how many of you are over 50 but Phil's Dad, Vance Bourjaily, was a reasonably well known outdoor writer for Field & Stream back in the 1960's and early 70's. He was different from many of the crowd and held to his own opinions by calling it like he saw it. Some time during that period, he moved his family from New York City to rural Iowa, bought a 250 acre farm and occasionally wrote of the hunting he experienced out there.

An especially humorous, and realistic (!) story he wrote for an outdoor anthology discussed a solo pheasant hunt he took around home one day, after evading hunting invitations from well meaning but bumbling companions...and he also wrote a thoughtful, insightful story about his evolution as a hunter entitled "Don't Get Out Much Anymore" that still rings true to me, after all these years...I think the Bourjailys were and are probably some of the "good guys" left in upland outdoor writing...
