Newbie here...hello everyone! I inherited what seems to be a model 315 from my uncle. I fired a couple of 2 3/4 Rem game load #6 shot and all was well. Now I hear that some of those old guns were made for 2 9/16. Is there anything to this? Also...is there any foolproof way to determine that it is, in fact a 315? Thanks...

Thanks for your response. I do have pics on my desktop, and will have to figure out how to post them.

Many early shotguns were made with 2 9/16" chambers. I have a great little L.C. Smith with these "short" chambers and it shoots fine! You can use 2 3/4 shells, but they do raise the pressure some. Easy to find 2 1/2 or 2 9/16" shells as you will see by the posts on this forum. I can't help with the identification. Enjoy. Also, check out www.16ga.com

Duh..... If you click on the link above you will get a second page that lists several suppliers of 16ga shells, along with other neat stuff. Rolling Eyes Laughing
BTW Dave, do you still have snow up there? Cool

Snow is pretty much gone in the lower, but the U.P. still has some.
It's not warming up very fast. Chance of snow this weekend. Sad
