Nothing real exciting but I finally managed some free time on a nice weather day. First time on the pattern board with a 16ga so didn't know what to expect but the insights into loads/choke/gun are as follows:
I Rizzini 702 16ga
FIOCCHI 1 1/8 #5 Golden Pheasant 1310
KENT TM 1 1/16 #5 1315
KENT TM 1 1/1 #5 1265
FIOCCHI
40YDS - M Choke - 87 PELLETS (20" CIRCLE) - 134 PELLETS (30" CIRCLE)
30YDS - IC - 97 PELLETS (20") - 147 (30")
KENT TM 1 1/16
40YDS - M - 32 PELLETS (20") - 64 PELLETS (30")
30YDS - IC - 62 PELLETS (20") - 92 PELLETS (30")
KENT TM 1 1/4
40YDS - M - 56 PELLETS (20") - 100 PELLETS (30")
30YDS - IC - 82 PELLETS (20") - 137 PELLETS (30")
Although the 30" circle is the standard I use the 20" circle as a "guide" for the size of a Pheasant.
Obviously this is not complete as I didn't have the time but it's a good start since I've never shot a 16ga before in my life I just wanted to see the basics around how it patterns. The FIOCCHI pattern looks very good while the KENT TM patterns are "ok".
From a no-tox perspective I need to consider finding a load that doesn't kick as I can handle the KENT TM loads but it's not ideal for me. At 6.3pds the gun is light but I'm sure my hunting jacket will help.
I did get two rounds of clays in - a 14 and a 15 - ouch! I guess I should have expected that as it's the first time shooting a gun in 5 months and the first time ever shooting a 16ga. There is plenty of time before the hunting season to get the 16ga "on target".
Overall, I'm very happy with the 16ga and it was fun - and that is what it's all about. |

That's the only way to see what your gun is doing Don't worry about the stouter loads when hunting--you won't be shooting that many shells in a day and the focus will be on that big ol' rooster anyway |
