Mr. Hammack — I’ve had a complaint that you are using our bulletin board to solicit sales of 16 gauge wads. I’m not sure that I can actually see it as directly as that — in fact, I couldn’t tell what the conversation was about. All’s fine for now, but I wanted to send a reminder that we do not allow commercial posts, and that means any that are intended to buy or sell anything.
Let me know if you have any questions,

Had no idea letting folks know about a color could be so confusing .
They seem kinda stirred up over there on Shooting Sportsman , I kinda get the impression that they dont care for the 16ga very much .
Do you folks get that kinda idea over on that site ???????????
Regards Charles
LONG LIVE THE 16GA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

They have always had a policy of not allowing commercial posts or private "for sale" posts. Thinly veiled sales pitches (mostly dog related) do get through from time to time. |

Their heavy handed, lopsided enforcement of their personal predilections is why many of us left. Long live the 16, and the sweet freedom of the Not board. |

There are some pretty testy folk on that BBS. Personally, I am not impressed by that much smack talk. |

The "not" board seems pretty sophomoric to me, but the folks there seem to like that sort of thing. Good that they have a board that suits them; personally I'll pass. |

I still visit and post there, but only because some of my friends still frequent the site. I'm truly sorry to see it sliding downhill with its liberal and one sided policies. I lurked on that site for a long time because it was the best available for a newbie- it's not that way any more. I had one of my posts removed about a month ago and they claimed it was "too provocative and not in the intrest of good discussion".

Really,
out of all the main boards the Upland Journal is one of the best run boards on the net. I left the SSM BBS a long time ago because of the collective attitude found there. Brad runs a board where there is very little fighting and the post are mostly friendly. |

Much the same can be said about this one. |

It was not the slant of the SSM board that dimished it, it was the infighting and the attituded of the particpants. Name calling, in-your-face insults, and a general attitude of "you disagree with me so you're an idiot". I don't blame the moderators for calling an end to it, and I'm glad they did.
Most of those folks went to the "not" board, which is the perfect place for them: free reign to say whatever you want, no matter how obnoxious. Many of us got over that at a young age; lots of folks, apparently, did not.
Sadly, because participants with a lot to offer didn't know how to behave, the SSM board is a shadow of its former self. Just because you CAN say something doesn't mean you SHOULD, and that is the unfortunate thing about the anonimity of the internet. All it would have taken to save it was a little civility. |

I also think this site and the Upland Journal are two of the best we have currently. They are certainly the two most civil.

I'm with Brian and Squareload when it comes to Upland Journal. Pretty darn good board here of course, if the narrower focus fits you. |

Fin, I can see that you do have a point. The infighting on the political forum is one I never tried to enter into. I will still say that opening any forum on the net will always be subject to the whims of the person owning and controlling the domain-whether fair or unfair. SSBBS is far, far, from my own philosophy and not the same board I used to frequent. I do know that UJ, BD&D, NOT board, and the 16GA are my FAVS.
I do so enjoy this board- I post here more than the others.I believe that it is because the focus of this board is so narrow-not to say we are snobbish- but we enjoy the openness that this board affords us.
I hope this board never dies. |
