I will be working up some low pressure loads, with the new wads that Mr. Hammack has designed.
I will start out with 3/4, 7/8, and 1 oz. loads, using the Cheddite hull.
I'll be targeting the 7500 psi range @ 1150 to 1200 fps.
Please post your thoughts here on other hulls, loads, or ranges, You'd like to see, and I'll see what we can come up with.
If anyone else will be doing the same, please correspond with me, so we don't duplicate each others loads.

Dave it would be nice to have something in the 1150 - 1200 fps range using Cheddite/Cheddite clone or Federal/Estate hulls with a chamber pressure of 6000 to 6500 for the Damascus shooters. I know some Parker O frame and Lefever XX frame shooters that would be real grateful. |

I shoot 0 frame, Damascus Parkers, in both 16 and 20 gauge.
All my loads are in the mid 7000 psi range.
Trying to get a 1200 fps load in the 6000 psi range isn't very easy.
However, it just may be possible with these wads.
I'm sure it can be done with a 3/4 oz. load, a good chance with the 7/8 oz. load, it's the 1 oz. load that worries me.
I'll keep you posted.

Dave I have had some really great low pressure performance loading Solo 1250 for 10 gauge Damascus. I did achieve 1200 fps with a chamber pressure of 5000 psi with 1 1/4 ounces of lead. Solo 1250 might be a powder to start with. |

My .02
7/8 and 3/4 oz loads in the Federal and Cheddite hull
I'm OK with a little higher pressure if needed to get good and complete powder burn.
Good luck! |

Ditto! Looking forward to that wad! However, I thought it was too humid in West Michigan for gunpowder to go "poof!" now........ |

Dave your wads should be getting to you real soon .
In your load development , you should consider the faster burn rate powders , you will get much better and more consistant results.
Bulleye , Redot , Rex - 0 and Rex - 1 should be considered for the 5/8 OZ , 11/16 OZ , 3/4 OZ loads you will be able to get below your 8000 PSI mark .
Rex - 1 , Redot , and no slower than Greendot should be considered for the 3/4 OZ and 13/16 OZ loads
I would suggest that you use the 65mm for the 7/8 OZ loading and its up to you but I would not even consider a 1 OZ load at all in the shorter cases .
Faster powders is the key to good ignition and consistancy in cold weather .

Charles,
After our conversation the other night, you really peaked my interest. On a high velocity, low pressure load. I will try some of your powder recommendations.
Looking forward to working with you and your new wads.
I'll keep in touch.

I like to see all of my loads at 1300fps. If it takes going down to 7/8oz to stay in low pressure ranges then great. (7/8oz will kill just as well as 1 oz)
If you can accomplish 1300fps I would be very interested in that data, especially in a 65mm or 67mm hull. |
