You can load the 5/8 OZ load in a RGL but it takes 11/16 OZ or more to load the Cheddite hull been loading some 5/8 OZ and playing with them I kinda like em for practice , real cheap to shoot.

Thinman, will 5/8 fit into a 2.5" Cheddite with the new wad?

I sent an e-mail to claybuster asking about availability and they came back and offered to send me some samples to try. If you're interested in these new wads but don't want to invest in 500 sight unseen, send them an e-mail and try some samples. If they work for me, I'll go back and buy some.

Hello Steve :

It sure will like a champ in the 63.5 mm the 5/8 OZ 11/16 OZ and 3/4 OZ is wonderful in the short shells .

The 65mm hull will load 5/8OZ , 11/16OZ , 3/4OZ , 13/16OZ in spades

The 69-70MM is ( 5/8OZ RGL Only ) 11/16OZ -7/8OZ everything else .

Cant wait to start loading 16's on a progressive and get away from this single stage stuff.

Regards Charles

Claybuster sent me a sample pack. They look like the old WW blue wad. I have a pretty good supply of compression formed hulls, and can't wait to try this wad.

I have been following this post with interest. It isn't everyday that a new product comes out for the 16 ers. Any way, I just got back from the Grand American in Sparta and may have a little to add to this post about the new CB0100-16 wad. I stopped at the claybuster booth and talked to Alan Hensley, product specialist for claybuster. His e-mail is ahensley@jron.com. He was giving out samples of the new wad that says "replaces WAA 16. It indeed looks a lot like the old AA wad I remember. Keep in mind, I haven't reloaded in 20 years. I asked him about the demensions of this wad. As I remember the old wad was used with a compresion formed hull. That hull tappered down to the base and was significantly smaller in inside diameter at the base than at the top. He told me that the base of the new wad was increased a little in diameter to allow it to work in a straight walled hull. When I got home, I measured the diameter of this new wad. It's .635 to .637 in diameter. I don't have any of the old WAA 16 wads to compare it to, so I don't know if it is infact larger. I then scrounged around and found a Federal and a Nobel empty hull. I cut them down a little and inserted the new wad in each of them. I thought it fit loose so I measured the inside diameter of the empty hulls. The Federal purple hull was .675 and the Nobel was .687. I said it seemed loose to me. I thought that much difference might allow powder to migrate, but then some people are using 20 ga wads in 16 ga hulls. So maybe its OK. I did ask him if there was any loading data available for the new wad. He said just follow the recipies found in books using the old WAA 16 wad. I'm sure if you e-mail him, he would send you a sample. I also found out that the new wad is available at Grafs Reloading, 923 South 5th St, St Charles, MO 636-946-7468 I'd gladly send my two sample packages to any one who wanted them. By the way, he said they were for 1 to 1 1/8 oz shot charge. Thats what I remember the old ones to be.

As a point of comparison the original WAA16 wad diameter averages .6218.

The plastic used in this wad seems much more pliable than that used in the original wad so the gas seal of Claybuster wad should expand nicely and work well in Remington GL hulls and may in fact work well in Cheddite type straight wall hulls.

I did a little more experimentation with the new WAA wad. I went shooting this afternoon and picked up a bunch of Remington black hulls. When I got home, I cut one down and measured the inside diameter. It was .637 in. Much smaller than the Federal and Nobel. I then put the new AA wad into the hull and it fit very nicely. Looks like the RGL is the hull to use for this new wad. I also cut open a 20 ga 7/8 oz load of #8s and poured it into the wad while it was still in the 16 ga hull. It didn't quite fill up to the pedals. Looks like this will be a 1oz wad unless a filler is used. One ounce loads in a 16 are great.

I am hoping that the WAA16 wad will work in a RGL black hull, after looking at the reloding information from the low pressure group I don't see a lot of information regarding the WAA16 wad and the black remington hulls, they only mention the Remington SP hulls. I just ordered 5,000 Claybuster WAA16 wads from Graf's.

I think I read that the Remington R16 wads were pretty much the same as the WAA16 wads, but the picture posted looks like the are a bit longer. Can anybody shed some light on whether the two wads are in deed interchangeable?

Thanks
