I have a garbage sack full of 2.5" once fired RST hulls that I'm just getting set up to reload. I'm planning on roll crimping these, and have been studying the load data spreadsheets for 1 oz loads on the reloaders group site.

I've narrowed the powder choices down to longshot and SR7625 for a mid 1100-1200 fps hunting load, but I'm having a tough time deciding which to use.

Any or all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Cameron

Decisions, decisions, decisions......... I don't use either but rule of thumb I use is to chose the one that is the most versatile and readily available. If you have to order powder there is a $20.00 hazardous materials handling fee tacked on to the shipping charge.

I reload the RST hulls with 7/8 oz. and fold crimped. I use SR-7625.
If you are going to roll crimp, you'll have to iron out the fold marks in the used hulls, to get a good roll crimp.

I use Dave's SR7625 7/8 ounce load with a primer substitution and am very happy with it. Jack and I shot about 125 of them today with great results - that is to say that Jack hit a very high percentage of his targets and I hit the few targets I had the gun properly pointed at.

Thanks guys for the replies.

Maybe I need to go back and take a look at the 7/8 oz loads! It sounds as though 7/8 oz is perfectly suitable for a hunting load!

I use longshot for most pheasant loads. I like it, the loads I use it with work great, and no "fillers" needed. Makes loading a little less time consuming. But I usually load closer to 1300fps. (load depends on what gun I am loading for) I roll crimp all my loads.

I also have a "jug" of 7625, works well too, and I have it on hand as I use it with some of my 10ga loads.
