I recently gave my father an old Browning Auto 5 that shoots 2 9/16" shells. I'd like to buy some shells just in case we go dove hunting and take it. Any recommendations on store-bought or special-order shells? I haven't tried reloading shells in 20 years and that was at a cousin's house.

Both of these are good. When I don't reload I use the RST's and they work well.

I've been focusing on these 2 brands of shells. I was a little concerned about the length but felt they'd be ok at 2 1/2". I noticed the Polywad vintager says it won't cycle the autos. Wonder if they'll cycle a 2 9/16" gun.

Robbie -RSTs & Polys in my experience won't cycle an A-5 2 9/16 or 2 3/4 - Gamebore 1 oz shells will however. Not cheap but they will get you going until you reload Cool

Well my experience differs from Postoak....I shoot the RST 1 oz loads in my 2 9/16 A5 and it cycles great, on the heavy ring setting. RST is the only commercial load I've tried, but I've made some pretty impressive long shots on doves. Not a lot of them, but if I'm on the bird the RST's do a good job. As far as length goes I think anything 2 1/2 to 2 9/16 should work just fine.

Regards, Augustus
