I just bought some classic doubles to try and noticed the crimps have been sealed with something. I was wondering if I used wax on my nice shot reloads if it would raise pressures or cause any other bad effects? hope someone has an idea because if anybody is going to take a swim in the swamp it's gonna be me?

It is probably not necessary but you can use the old timers trick of dipping the case mouth of a loaded shell in molten paraffin. This will seal the crimp without raising the pressure. It is best to dip about 1/4 inch of the shell and then hold it, case head up, until the paraffin cools and goes back to a solid form.

I sometimes drip candle wax on the crimps, sometimes to hold the shot in on the ones that wind up with a small hole some time to seal it. I never worry about it as a lot of Fed. shells has it on them.

I have my wife save all her old fingernail polish and use it on primers and crimps. It takes a little longer to seal a crimp with it than wax, but you aren't as likely to get excess on it, either. Very Happy
