The last Charles posted on the new wad Arnie the mold maker was still a working. I would guess no wads for 2008.

Has anyone talked with them lately? Are they OK? Are they operational at ALL?

I talked to Kevin at DR on Monday AM. Didn't get the chance to ask about the 16 ga. wad. He was supposed to call me back later that day, but I never heard from him. Perhaps this Monday?

Kevin will not have information about the 16ga wad , for I still have yet to get the mold done in order to get it up to Kevin to run , it is so close but yet so far away , the final fitting is still taking place mating the parts together and making them fit .

I am more excited about getting the mold done than anyone , I am running out of wads to shoot .

Charles, forgive me if this has been addressed before.

My understanding is that your (downrange) wad is designed for the straight walled hulls, BP Multi hull, Cheddite..... and I believe that I read loads recipes would be available.

Do you also believe that it will be suitable (probably tight) in the Rem Black hulls? If so fantastic and would load recipes also be available for this hull?

I ordered some Cheddite 1 oz. wads from Grafs today. I hope we get the wads soon before this 1000 runs out.

BTW; Grafs is so backed-up on shipping, my order will ship next week at best. I ordered powder, Primers, etc., thru the wads on the order as an after thought. Kinda glad I did.

They are totally out of Unique powder, all sizes. They hope to have a Shipment from Alliant after the first of the Year.

I am down to one pound of Unique, not good.
I was going to order 8#.

The 25 wads Nick sent me last year fitted the Remington GL hulls perfectly. They should also work in the Cheddite type hulls as well. The wad base skirts are flaired outwards a bit and will adapt to either hull type. Your wad guide fingers will help them slip right into either hull without a problem. I reloaded them with a MEC Grabber and did not have problem one seating them perfectly.

The Remington GL hulls are about .643-.647 internally. Any diameter wad from .635 to .660 will work in them. Some of us remember that folks used to use even smaller diameter 20 ga wads in the GL hull for years after the R16 and Winchester AA 1 ounce wads were withdrawn from the market. The return of the R16 and the newest 16 ga Claybuster wad has pretty much eliminated the need to substitue 20 ga wads now.

The Cheddite type hulls are about .660 inside. So any wad from .650 to .680 will work well in them. A wad with a .650 base diameter skirt will flair out if it is seated firmly on the powder like it should be. 20 to 30 pounds of seating pressure will do the job nicely without squashing the wad down too much. A firm crimp will keep it in place, so powder migration should not happen in a well reloaded shell. I've used SP16 wads in Federal hulls for years without any flake powder migration.

Only small kernal ball powder has ever given me migration troubles when using an SP16 wad in a roomy hull. My technique of using a small square of polyethylene plastic bag over the SP16 wad base has cured that problem as well. I now use it as insurance for all my heavy hunting loads. It won't hurt a thing, and might prevent a very ill timed blooper. (I am a firm believer in Murphy's Law, so I don't take risks with hunting ammo.)

A loose crimp will allow the wad to push up slightly, which will force the crimp open to a certain degree. Loose crimps that allow the wad to creep upwards are the leading cause of powder migration when using one piece plastic wads. Set a good firm crimp on your hunting ammo and you will have eliminated a major potential problem. Murphy will go look elsewhere for somebody else to bugger with. Wink
