I bought the wrong gun for me, a 12 gauge Wingmaster which I'm selling. I hope the next gun will be the right one; I'd like a 16 gauge SxS for everything from grouse to turkeys and resident geese. Does anyone make a SxS with interchangeable chokes, preferably with double triggers, non-automatic safety, extractors, and straight grip?

Not that I know of by any maker. As close as you will get is a AyA, Merkel, RBL, or Uggie, which you would have to send to Briley or such for the choke tubes.

What's your budget? Really sounds like you need two guns to me. On the cheap side you could have chokes put in a CZ.

Hello
The closest that I know of is the Tristar Brittany, chokes, single trigger, ejectors, straight grip,
This is not the Brittany Sporting which has pistol grip.

Welcome aboard Rob, like 16'er wrote "depending on the budget" try looking into Huglu. Try reviewing the info on this thread...http://www.16ga.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6344...I've been watching the quality of the field peices from Huglu for a few years now and my buddy has a 20ga o/u of theirs that is just fine for the price.

Best of luck and Happy Holidays, Mike

I agree, trimports were good people to deal with.Checkout gunbroker.com. Trimports sells guns on the site. I got my huglu 103fo/u for 100+$ cheaper than the price on their web site.

Rob, the gun you're asking for is the loch ness monster of shotguns. We like to believe it exists, but no one has seen one. I would get a Lion Country Uggie or AYA, or maybe an NID or even a Lefever Nitro and have tubes installed. If someone could explain why companies insist on making sxs 16's without tubes, we would be grateful.

Actually, there is one on GunBrokers. It has Briley chokes, and is in the $1200 range. I exchanged some e-mails with the fellow, but ended up buying a different gun. It is one of those that is still in the back of my mind though.

Even Galazan doesn't provide screw in chokes chokes with their new 16 gauge RBL. What we need is an SKB quality s x s with screw-ins. I had Briley put chokes in my SKB model 100 12 gauge and it is sweet! 28" chrome lined barrels with a single selective trigger and five chokes. It isn't cheap though!

16'er is right,,,with the versatile shooting conditions you want to cover, it sounds as if you need more than one gun. There is a big difference in need for a light-carry fast-pointing grouse gun versus a turkey or goose gun shooting big-bump loads from a blind. And even if you go for some kind of "compromise" gun that would handle those different cases in a satisfactory manner, you will just about be FORCED to become a reloader if you go with 16 ga due to the difficulty in consistently obtaining a wide variety of appropriate ammo. If you are set for 16 ga reloading, then go ahead.

Otherwise, I'd suggest you look for a lightweight 16 or 20 ga for grouse and stick with a 12 for waterfowl and turkey shooting.

In my view, a double already has multiple chokes (two anyhow). With different ammo choices a shooter should be able to make a double's chokes do just about any task well enough, so I don't believe that choke tubes are all that wonderful an innovation for two-barreled shotguns. My position is that if your double has one choke that is sort of open and one that is sort of not open, you are good to go for almost anything.

My thoughts exactly!

You need two guns to do it right. (and a few more for good measure!)

Well since we are spending ole reisner's money we better throw in a 10 gauge for those turkeys, geese and pass shooting those ducks.

You can get yourelf the 16ga SxS with straight stock and double triggers with extractors. I'm sure you can find one of some sort or the other.
Then just send it to Briley or the like and have tubes put in. Only problem you MAY run into is the thickness of the barrels not being enough and the tubes can't go in.

My Merkel has double triggers, would have had a straight stock but I ordered it with the PG, but it came with ejectors and an auto engaging safety.
It now has tubes and is capable of all that you want to do with tubes from Skt1 to Extra full.
