| Are these "AA"-type compression formed shells? They look like it but want to be sure. Thanks. |

Never heard of a Winchester Express  .
Did you mean Winchester Expert? I have only heard of the Remington Express.

| If the Spelling on the box is Xpert and they have a smooth side with an 8 pont crimp they are compression formed. If the name is spelled out look inside the hull and see if you can see a white or blue base wad. If you can see a base wad they are not. |

Yes, it says Xpert on there, and there is no base wad. I'm good to go. Thank you all. |

Winchester/Western also sold an Expert load many years ago that had a tall paper base wad. They had a red and yellow box that had the word Expert inside a big X. Looked a lot like the old red & yellow box that the Super X load was sold in about the same time.
Last summer I went out to an old gravel pit to shoot and there was 2 boxes worth of these old Xperts laying on the ground. I got very exited seeing these red Winchester 16ga hulls until I looked closer and saw the ribbed case and the paper base wad  .
I have a bunch of the compression formed Expert hulls with 8 fold crimps and they are great hulls.

Nope they're red. I found a case in the basement of small town gun shop.

Those are the ones right there..... glad they are compression formed and I can use them for recipes calling for such...... thanks guys.
