Hmmmm.  Perhaps that 'splains it.
I have never given any attention to the tool as it was 12ga. and just a part of an extensive collection of useful/semi-useful/generally useless stuff.
I'll give it the once over tonight and report back.................
In the past I've used one of the older antique bench mounted 'turners' as well as one of the drill press types--both with reasonable success although unreasonable amounts of time.
