I am trying to determine which primers produce the lowest pressures?
I am using Remington STS primers on my lowest pressure 20 gauge loads (yes i know this is primarily a 16 gauge site) for a thin walled LC Smith 5E and I am now having problems finding the Remington primers. If I get stuck running out and having to substitute I am unsure of which is the best candidate.
what are the lowest pressure producing primers? |

| The term "brisance"refers to the strength of the primer relative to the flames heat temp and length of burn---Be careful when subbing primers--Yes the CCI's are more mild than the Remmy's |

What exactly are you loading now?
Do you know what the PSI and the FPS are?
How thin are the thin walls of you're 5E? |

In the past, when I've contacted Alliant about subbing for a Rem 209 in a 12 gage target recipe I was told to drop powder charge 1/2 grain if subbing a CCI 209. Something to chew on. |

The fellow asked what was a low pressure primer,
The CCI209 is consistently one of the primers that produces loads with low pressures with great regularity. There are exceptions to all of this ballistic stuff.
You might want to look at Mr. Armbrust's primer list.
I am not advocating switching primers, but then again that isn't what was asked. |

thanks for the input.
I agree with the course of action of putting together several different loads and paying Tom Armburst to test them. This will solve some other questions I had on the effect of the poly wad insert on pressures.
I just need to find the time to do the loads and properly box them up and ship them to him |
