Is my new to me unfired (made in 1946) improved Cyl chokes model 37 compatable with steel shot or do I have to reload Nice or Bismuth? I suspect No but thought I'd ask.
Cheers, John

I doubt limited use of steel, esp. smaller than #2 would ever hurt anything, but if it were me, I'd use something softer.

I shot about 100 rounds of steel #2 through a 16 gauge model 37 with modified choke back when it was the only waterfowl shot option and it did no damage to the gun. i also switched to Bismuth then Tungsten Matrix then Nice Shot as soon because steel was not as lethal. Steel shot shells have improved since then, but if your are shooting limited quantites of non-toxic shot I would shoot any non-toxic shot instead of steel.

Hey guys
I found this over on SGW.

Your Model 37 is good to shoot steel shot. As a matter of fact any Model 37 with a modified or imp. cyl. can be fired with steel. Shoot only factory loads, and you should have no problem. Thanx!

I tend to agree with Spike about non-toxic shot

Thanks to all for the input! Nice to know that I can shoot steel thru it but I will In all likelyhood reload some of my Bismuth stash and I have 60 boxes of Kent TM#5.
Cheers, John
