I bought my 16 gage last year as well as a used MEC reloader. Since then I have not touched the reloader (because I bought > 50 boxes of ready made shells at $5.25 per box).

Now my shell stash is getting low and I must figure this reloading thing out. Since I talked to this forum last summer re reloading, much has seemed to change incl the new DR16 wad. So before I comitt a lot of time, I thought I would ask the question again.

I am looking for a recommendation of 2 loads:

(1) A 3/4 oz for skeet
(2) A one ounce for sporting clays.

I am willing to buy any components to get the best long term load, but here is what I have at the house:

> 2 large boxes of Green dot (I could buy another brand of powder if it makes a difference)
> 500 Ched Hulls (I could buy Fiocchi hulls if it makes a difference, but Federal Hulls are not to be found)
> about 500 Rem Black Hulls
> no wads
> A brick of WIN209 and CH 209 primers

Suggestions on a load I can find in the 16 gage Society database?

On a side note: I keep hearing about this new DR16 wad, but can't seem to find any recipes on the 16 gage spreadsheet, nor can I find them on Ballistic Product pr PRI's website. Is there an issue with them.

Thanks
all

Take a look at the Hodgdon and IMR powder sight. They will give you a start with Remington and Winchester hulls. Some folks are preparing to have loads tested so it may be a little early for the 16ga LP loads.
Best,
Ron

The article in the Skeet Review on the DR-16 and loads gives quite a few 7/8 ounce loads with the DR-16 in the Remington hull with International Clays and PB.

I've heard a rumor and checked the wed site that it is true that Claybuster is reviving the WAA-16 wad. They do good 1 ounce loads.

No rumor. CB has been producing the WAA16 replacement wad for nearly a year now. It's a very good wad and loads very well in Rem, Fiocchi, and Fed hulls.

If you call Claybuster they will send you a sample bag of 25 wads.

Good luck.

I haven't tried any, but someone mentioned that they flared the base of the wad a little for a better gas seal.

Dave,

They did flare it more, whoever told you was correct. I bought a couple of bags, but I am getting low on Winchester AA style hulls. I like the DR-16, better because I don't have to use fillers for 3/4 & 7/8 oz. loads and they work better in straight wall hulls. I really like the Gualandis for 1 oz. loads best.
