My case of Claybuster CB16 wads came yesterday. Add those to my case of Downrange DR-16 wads and I should have my 16-gauge loading covered for the rest of my days! I have been shooting a lot of skeet with my RBL-16 and the 7/8 ounce loads in Federal cases. Bits of the crimp are blowing away at the 6th and 7th reload. I've been shooting and reloading the same two boxes over and over just to see how long the Federal cases last. |

What recipe do you use for the Federal hull? I've got a bazillion of them, and an RBL on the way.
Thanks! |

I'm using a Winchester 209, with 16.2 grains of American Select, the DR-16 wad and 7/8 ounce of shot in the Federal hull. A member here gave me the load at 16 grains, but my bushing drops 16.2 grains. I've loaded a bunch, but have been using two boxes and a few extra shells over and over. The crimps are starting to go at the 6th and 7th loadings. I've shot a load of 24s (and some lesser scores) on the skeet range with my new RBL-16 (ic & mod), but can't seem to get that 25.
The CB-16 wads have gone into my supply of compression formed Winchester hulls with 1 ounce loads -- a Winchester 209 and 20.5 grains of WSF. |

Thank you Researcher,
That sounds like a nice load and I'll try it out. I ordered my RBL with SK1/SK2.
Getting 7 reloads out of the Federal is pretty good. |

Researcher - I have a couple bags of the DR16 I haven't gotten around to using yet. When I got them, I measured them and tried to slip them in a few empty cases. They do not seem to be as tight of a fit in a Federal case as I was expecting and I anticipate possiblity of migration of finer powders. Another observation was how thick and stiff the wads are. Might that not be a reason your crimps are blowing out after a few loads? |
