I'm the only one shooting trap at my club with one. As far as clays, not sure but I don't see any 16 hulls or boxes in the garbage. Very Happy

I have shot many of trap rounds with a 16. I have shot for money, meat or any thing else that is at stake. What is really suprising is when I go back to the truck to get another the guys start saying there he goes I'll bet he's going to get that 16.
I shoot a Mod. 12 on trap alot. Mainly to beat the guys when I'm having a good day. Alot of my yardage is from shootoffs at 30 to 35yrds. The 16 has no more trouble at that range than a 12. Same pattern, same speed, same shot. Its just all in the mind.
On skeet I have no problem. I think on skeet the 16 is a little overgun. Hell your not that far from the birds. I just love to shoot the 16. Best Ideal ga. ever made.

old16:
i will come out and agree 100% about the 16 being a little much for skeet Shocked 20 and below are my favorites.
low pressure 7/8 oz spreader loads in federal hulls replicates a 20ga skeet load nicely in my "ALL TOO HEAVY 870" Laughing

IDcut;

I agree that the number of 16 shooters are slim at the CDA Skeet and Trap Club.

Do ya think that we can convert some of em? Or do ya think it is a lost cause? Rolling Eyes

Some you can.
None were shooting 16 till I showed up with one.
3 others tried it liked and bought one.
I notice that people get curious if you show up with something everyone else doesn't have

Out at Ben Avery yesterday becoming one (in a Biblical sense Wink ) with sweet Elsie prior to leaving for KS. Had a new trapper working-family moved from Neb when he was a junior in HS (with a class of 12) to Phoenix in 85' (with a class of 900) Still has grandparents working a full section in central Neb but hasn't been back to hunt. Saw Elsie and asked if it was a 20 and I explained it was a 16. "Hard to find shells for those now isn't it?" Reassured him it was not and 16s becoming increasingly popular.
He got that familiar look in his eye 'You know, I shot a 16 when I was a boy'
Might have another convert Very Happy
Meeting up with one of my longest and best friends and hunting buddies next weekend. He grew up in Ulysses, KS and his first gun was a 16g 1100. Will have to work on him up and back from S. Dakota a bit Wink

I have shot trap with a full choke Sweet 16, and skeet with a Model 12. Most folks don't notice, but occasionally one of the older guys smiles.

At the IWLA I shoot at.... I've shot along side 16 ga:

Purdy's
Churchill's
Parker's
Bayard's
WC Scott
Model 37's
LC's
Fox's
and
Browning's

Most weekends there is at least one other 16 ga gun in the rack.

Oh, and there are a few sicko's (Lawrence, you know I'm talking about you) that shoot 10 ga's now and again...

What fun!
