Having such a nice time last week hunting with the Sweet 16. I am thinking about looking for another. Like to get one in rough shape and Duracoat it as a pure hunting gun. The Sweet I have now has excellent wood, but needs to be refinished to really bring it out, so i do not want to use that one. I have seen a few guns that would be good candidates on Gun Broker but they are Standard A5s.
So my question is how much different other than weight is a Sweet from a Standard A5? Will the barrels interchange between them? My Sweet has a Poly choke that I really like Was thinking of switching barrels if i found a gun that had a choke I did not prefer.
Appreciate any feedback |

The Sweet is about 1/4# lighter, all things being equal, eg, barrel length, rib
or not, wood density, etc. There is some milling on the receiver, barrel ring,
and some holes in the butt of the stock.
Your barrel will fit, just be sure if you do get a "Standard" that it's a 70mm
chamber gun. The "Sweet" has the cachet, the "Standards" are usually substantially cheaper. Depending on your style of hunting, sitting in a blind
vs trampin' over hill and dale, that 4oz difference may or may not matter to you.
Cheers,
R*2
Ps. If you like your Polychoke, keep an eye out for a standard with one,
they usually go for a bit less than guns without. The price on the Sweets
though has been getting more reasonable, get a roughie for the Duracoat
exercise. |

I hunt with both a 55 Sweet & a 55 Std 16, for me the difference is negligable.
This is from the mid 50's but will give you an idea of the weight difference usually around 9 - 10oz:
