For the sake of discussion, if you only had 3-4 shotguns in your cabinet, what configuration would they be? Light 16, medium 16, heavy 16? Or, light/medium 16, heavy 12? Or, ?? |

I am trying to downsize as well. Nice med weight 16 for clays and preserve or wild phez hunts; LW 20 for grouse & W/C; a 410 & 28ga for clays and preserve birds. Could do W/O a 12, but another problem is that I like both O/U and SxS in all of the above. Also enjoy letting my old nasty multifired hulls fly out of an autoloader. I have to stop now; getting light headed. |

The first gun my Dad gave me, one that was my Dad's, and one that was my Granddad's.
Doesn't really answer your question all that well, but it fits me nice. They happen to be a 20ga Auto, a 16ga Pump, and a .410 single shot respectively. I wouldn't change a thing about them.

I realize it is hypothetical but it also unrealistic. The last time I only owned 4 guns I was still in high school. No way I could possibly survive w/ only 3-4 guns! |

God forbid it should ever happen but if it did these wold do.
1. Browing Sweet 16
2. FOX SW 12 Ga 2 BArrel set 30" F&M and a 26" SK1 & sk2
3. 16 ga Lefever H grade
4. 16 ga fox sw 28" Sk1 & sk2

That's a nice selection Joe. Looks like you have the bases covered. |

Getting down to only four shotguns is a tough call for me. But if I "had to" here's my list in preferential order. (Sorry but they aren't all 16's.)
1. Winchester 21 - 16ga
2. Browning Auto 5 - 20ga Magnum
3. Browning Superposed - 12ga
4. Browning Citori XS Feather - 28ga
Now if I could keep them all the list would be:
5. Browning Sweet Sixteen - 16ga
6. Browning Auto 5 - 12ga Magnum
7. Browning Citori Lightning - 16ga
8, Ruger Red Label - 12ga
9. Browning BSS - 12ga
10, Browning BPS - 16ga
11. Winchester 101 - 20ga
12, LC Smith Field (1948) - 12ga
13. Browning Auto 5 (1928) - 12ga Custom Trap Stock
(The wife says I should have a gun sale on the ones I don't use very often. But every time I go shooting I usually take a different gun. Maybe that explains my lower scores now.) |

I might be able to do it if I could get Browning to make a 3 gauge set (16, 20, & 2 in a citori feather.

I have three of the four figured out:
1. Browning Superposed Lightning 20ga 3" M/F
2. Winchester Model 21 16ga w/two barrels, IC/M & M/F
3. Winchester Model 21 12ga 3" F/F
Just so that I could shoot hard shot I'd add:
4. Browning Citori Superlight 16ga w/6 choke tubes from SK-F |

If 16"S only (all I would consider light at 7 lbs. or less):
Fox CE 30" Mod/Full (Phil 1913)
Merkel 1620EL
Merkel 2016EL
Mossberg 500B (1964 my first gun of any kind & I just can't part with it) |

ideal 4 gun Battery
1. Light - Greener FH50 16
2. Medium -- Christophe Best SLE 16
3. Medium -- Jules Bury Sideplated BLE 16
4. Heavy --Christophe Best SLE 12
I am considering eliminating the Jules Bury Sideplated BLE 16 which I originally got as a bad weather gun and gun for the wife, but have turned out not to use at all. Then replacing with a superlight (5lb) 28 SxS or moving my 16 Citori back into the four as a Heavy 16.
Right now I can't bring myself to sell any of my other seven guns which include a 16 Citori, 12 Turner Hammergun(purchased from Hill for my Dad, traded away then traded back), 16 German Guild BLNE (My father’s gun, my first 16), 16x16x8mm German Guild Drilling, 28 O/U BLNE Salvinelli, a .22 Rifle and lastly .300 Savage Rifle |
