Went out to SW North Dakota New Years eve - 1st two days were single digits & with light winds- cold of course- 3rd day 45 degrees - next day wind chill of -20. Got our birds but had to work for them. The birds were in the shelter belts in flocks of up to 3-400 & would escape by running/flying into the open fields where they would stay just out of range
One evening we hid behind round bales & pass shot - not my idea of a true pheasant hunt. |

| My dad has often told me of how in the '30s, they would sit in a feed shock and shoot prairie chickens with a .22 short when the birds flew in to feed. |

I was up there at the same time. The conditions were difficult, my pointing dogs were mostly useful for fetching, the same held true for flushing dogs. When we got into very heavy cover like the cattails we got a few points.
I think I talked to you in the motel parking lot one evening. I didn't know that you were a 16 ga fan. We need a secret password like the Masons. |
