Without polling the members, I'm interested in learning what gun games folks enjoy and why. I thought this up talking with 16gadavis on the phone this morning and decided that mine are, in low priority to high, trap, five stand, skeet, then sporting clays. I'm too slow to shoot trap from low gun and don't premount for anything, five stand is fun but gets a bit repetitious unless the targets are changed weekly, skeet is a game that fascinates me because of its history and great teaching opportunities, sporting clays is the bomb for me because of the variety of targets and presentations.
When I shot sporting clays down South, it got boring because we didn't have the wind factor. I got back into it when shooting clays on the prairies where the presentations changed by the hour on the same targets. FITASC could be my new favorite but opportunities to shoot that game requires too much travel for me.
No passing judgement and no wrong answers.

I shoot the most Skeet, then Crazy, Trap, 5-Stand, Sporting Clays, etc.
Crazy is using the trap overlay on the skeet field.
16 yard line.
Shooting doubles, High house first on first pair, low house first on second pair.
0 to 3 second delay and the puller is expected to be mean
So two doubles at trap 1, 2, 3, 4 at 5, then two double at referees station
for skeet #Eight, and last is a single from just outside station 8, puller
decides on which bird, still a delay or not.
Low gun is an option
And you can use other trap yard lines but 16 is more angular.
GREAT FOR GROUSE PRACTICE !!
Mike
p.s. Amarillo is MUCH windier than Chicago
3400 feet elevation and the MESA top of a mountain, WINDY
We call it the Caprock |

Wobble Trap, Skeet, sporting clays, trap.
The wobble trap setup at local club is fun and good practice for upland birds over dogs. 1 single and 2 report pairs at 5 stations positioned in an arc even with the wobble trap. Trap is moving side to side and up and down so you never know where the target will be going.
One club I where I attended a fun shoot once had a game where they shot trap from all 8 skeet stations. Each shooter started out with 25 shells and each shooter took turns shooting at the same station. If you missed at a station you had to keep shooting at that station until you hit the target. It took a long time per round but the last shooter with shells still in his pocket won the round. |

RENO _ in your order of liking - trap , sporting clays , 10/5 stand , wobble trap , skeet .... trap for me is very rare , even though the club where I hangout shoots lots ... sporting and 5 stand opps for me is rare as the main club has New Yrs / St Pats shoots - total chaos as Mikey C can confirm ...wobble - one of the clubs has a winter league which during a reg winter is a riot - not so THIS yr ... shoot tons of skeet can shoot in so many ways - almost shot today at minus 1' ....one of the things lost track of the last 2 yrs - meant to get a 30'' Briley tube for the lefevre to shoot trap with (410) , now THAT might get me tweaked ! |

Wobble trap and Sporting Clays . With clays , my ''friends'' usually send whatever they want when controlling the button . Makes for fast shooting similar to grouse hunting . You never know when or what you're getting . |

I've been wanting to try Argentina clays where you stand in the middle of the machines and the birds are spaced just fast enough to let you reload and keep an eye peeled for the next bird. You don't know where the birds are coming from or in what combo. I've seen a layout of the course on paper but not in real life. Designed to simulate dove hunting in South America, it's a barrel heater. Check it out here

1. sporting clays
2. 5 stand
3. skeet I shoot a lot but don't have the focus like to shoot targets backward and doubles to keep my interest
4. trap about 30 years ago when I was a kid but made me shoot a shotgun like a rifle. Took along time to stop looking at the gun and aiming.
5. I would try anything else love shooting clays in the off season.
Everything low gun. |

I like the trap/skeet game described. That sounds like fun. Reno |

Mr. Mike, when have you ever hunted grouse? I always follow your posts but that is the first time I have ever heard you mention grouse. I'm thinking swap hunt.

REMEMBER, I grew up in Whitewater, Wisconsin and lived for Six years in Montana.
No grouse in Texas, and for that matter, few quail or pheasants because of the drought.

That's an easy one for me. I shoot skeet with a #2 AyA in 16 Ga. and a 28 Ga. Parker Repro 2-barrel set about 2-weeks before the seasons begin. |
