I have an NID with a serial number in the 45X,XXX. I've heard different things about where they switched to 2 3/4" shells. Anybody got any info on where this one falls in. Don't really know any doubles experts in AK when it comes to the 16. Sure I probly paid too much for it, $500. Been refinished and not the best of work but bought it as a shooter mostly. Just lost my resistance when I read it was a 16Ga. |

Driggy,
If you got a NID 16 that's solid and tight for $500.00 even if it has some wear and tear your in good shape and have a terrific gun.
If you will send me the first four digits of the serial number I can give you a good idea of the chamber size.
Cheers,
Brad |

Larry Brown can probably weigh in too; he's had a bunch of NID's. Sounds like a good buy to me! |

The first 4 digits are 4526. Appreciate the help. This is my 1st SxS 16 and 1 of 3 16s I currently have ( Citori Gran Lightning and Rem. 31). |

Drig,
I agree with the Rev. Your around mid 1928.
Until you get to about late 1931 you are almost certainly looking at a 2 9/16 chamber length. This will surprise some folks because I rarely advocate altering an older gun but in your case given the condition and grade of the gun you may be a candidate to have the chamber bored out to 2.75 however you need to have a good smith check your guns suitability and condition. It's an easy and relatively inexpensive procedure. My 2C!
Enjoy your gun,
Brad - AKA "Parker Putz". |
