Hopefully they'll have one on hand at Pheasantfest next month. |

Grrrrr...
Web says it's under 6lbs.... Web says 26" or 28" bbl...Web says choke tubes (the new style DS has such a better exterior barrel profile than the Invector)... Web says kinematic drive (same as the Benelli ultra lights I've been eyeing for the last few years)...Web says price comparable to the Benelli ultralight (but this is 16!)....
Wheels are turning, local shop has been contacted, one is too be secreted to the shop owner for review ( who is a good friend)
Reports will follow.. checkbook will remain open until all tests have been made (and lowest possible price is determined).... |

Great idea, but compared to other semi's it lacks and at under 6 lbs.......I won't buy one. I was hoping for a shotgun I could do more than just hunt with......
Oh well guess I will daydream about Benelli making a SS in 16 gauge. |

Grrrr....
Reality says I have a 1969 Browning Sweet 16.....reality says I have a 16ga Savage 775a w/ 4 barrels (including a custom slug barrel).....reality says for 1500.00 I could have 3 or 4 more barrels for my original sweet 16...reality also says that 1oz of #7.5 out of a new A5 vs my old Auto-5 is still 1oz of #7.5 shot....reality says that the 12ga A5 didn't get many votes from me after I handled one...
Reality also says that the check book has limited funds... |

Sign me up too! I'm a hunter first and clay shooter second so the reliability of this action is a huge plus along with the dimensions/weight being offered. Can't wait to see these when they come out! |

If I didn't own 12 and 20ga. BUL's, I would buy one.
My next 16ga. purchase will be a SxS.
Still, I'm glad to see Browning offering the A5 in 16ga. |

So.....
I'm betting regardless of my last post that I'll end up really liking the new A5 16ga. I'd never in a million years expected them to offer it in a 16ga before the 20ga version. This could be a sign of a small comeback for the 16ga....The other logical reason I suppose is that there are no "modern" design semi auto 16ga guns, and maybe Browning figured it was time to dominate the market in that area.
Regardless, I am excited about handling one. I was super excited about the 12ga when it was coming out, but after handling it I just wasn't impressed, im sure they are great but the 12 just didnt grab me. However, that's a 12, not a smaller frame gun like a 16.
Exciting stuff! I'd like to think we all had something to do with it! |

There is an apparent aftermarket opportunity for A5 pistol grip modifications and add-ons going unrealized.
Perhaps a snap-on post could be installed by a woodsmith and a round knob then added or not, as the desires of the hunter changes...traditional to Buck Rogers-esque.
Or, wood sculptures might be added in indicating the bird hunted on the day...or hunter initials or house numbers could be snapped on.
Or, an Advil dispenser.
Or, a a place to hide a truck key.
Or.....well, the mind reels with the possibilities.
Those possibilities alone almost make me wish to order this new must-have but I still safe a 12 BUL.
That model well fills the niche of a scattergun easy to start and easier to stop.....whilst looking just somewhat short of a 60's Caddy.
Another option would just find me more conflicted on where to focus blame for missing. |

I too have a BUL so it doesn't fill a niche for me. That stock is a deal breaker. |

I agree, but I'm sure browning marketing sees it differently. They know a lot of us are going to buy this new Sweet just the way it is. Then in a few years, or maybe as a Shot special, they'll drop a round knob Sweet on us, and once again we'll all go and buy that model too. Guaranteed future sales is why I'm guessing there's no round knob stock on the initial offering. |
