I won't repeat the sad story of having my heart broken by my custom Princess of Whales Sterly. On the inspiration of Dr 16g, here's the replacement: http://www.williamlarkinmoore.com/product_details.asp?id=1396 and quite the looker she is
Hunter Arms LC Smith made 1911 with ejectors. Amazing (old oil refinish) wood for an OO grade. Previously had chambers and forcing cones lengthened and chokes opened to .006 and .014. Great balance with the 30" brls and weighs right at 6 1/2#.
She's almost too pretty to take in the CRP, cut milo, and gumbo of S. Dakota but just might dazzle the Merkel maniacs and Parker Putz(i) in Montezuma. Would make a wonderful clays, grouse and back up quail gun also.
Still have my 1913 12g Sterly for late season pheasant choked .15 and .35 Now all that has to happen is for my oppositional setter dog to find some birds |

Per Michael McIntosh in his book, Best Guns:
Quote: |
..has three positions- on safe in the center, and off when pushed either forward or back. The difference is that when you push it forward, the safety is automatic and clicks back to safe when you move the top lever. When you pull it backward, the gun stays off-safe till you move the button manually.

Gloria a Dios, back in the saddle Sweet Elsie pointed like a dream (and with the same sight picture as the Trojans.) When I kept my head down she was in the middle of the targets. Looks like there's hope for my broken heart
I think this is further confirmation that the brls on the Princess of Whales Sterly were mis-regulated though both seemed to shoot equally well above point of aim. In 25 years of pretty serious (and intermittantly idolatrous) gun buying, trading, and shooting, this was the first gun I've had that I just could not shoot (please note I did not say shoot WELL )
BTW: I cleaned up the wood with Birchwood Casey Stock Sheen & Conditioner (recomended after a Tru-Oil finish) then rubbed on some Old English Lemon Oil. Stunning wood |
