I have a Parker VH w/ 28"bbls , Savage Fox BSE w/ 26" and Lafever Nitro w/ 26". I use the Parker mostly for Pheasant. BSE gets used for pretty much everything. The Lefever I use for wild chukar cuz it can take a beating.I hunt more than most guy(2 to 4 a week ) as I live 15mins from decent bird hunting so I use all my guns. Every one serves me differently.
I pretty much have all my bases coverd and don't need another . So I'm thing of saving up for a vanity gun. I'd really like a Darne but they're costtly. But it's fun to save for something like that. Though it may take 20 years.
What would you get and why ?

Rev, your not much fun anymore. Always looked forward to getting a beating from you. Guess now that you've turned 72 it's to much effort for you(that and chasing kat/dog over the country side ) BUT I MUST ask what the hell would you do with a quail gun??

Padre, my butt ugly simson scares them more than the merk, so I'll be bringing both of those to Ks the simson for me, and I'll let Rev carry the merk, at least that way he'll know it isn't the gun

I am looking for a Parker 16 now, but am being very selective and will wait as long as it takes. I have a Merkel 1620 EL, a Gran Lightning 16, and the J.P Sauer Drilling in 16 that I posted photos of some time back. As a matter of fact, I should probably delete those photos that are taking up space here, so here is the thread for those who have not had a look. I will delete them tomorrow.

If funds were not an issue, I would probably go after a CSMC Model 21 in 16, a higher-end Ithaca 37 16 when they become available, a Darne 16, and a Merkel 28 gauge would be great. So many guns, so little time/money................ Wink

Birdswatter: This is a pristine VH 16 at WilliamLarkinMoore. When they got it earlier in the year, it was priced at $4200-quite a bit of inflation since Confused They had no takers at the Vintagers and may or may not be going to Tulsa this weekend.

Rev,
That appears to be a very nice gun. You say it was $4200. originally and now it's $4900.? Have you seen it in person?

PM sent to birdswatter re: Ed1's Trojan.

And yes, I've fondled, drooled, and begged over WLM's 16 VH to the point that they no longer keep it out in the main gunroom Rolling Eyes

Geez; I hate to sound like an old fart (which I am) but I guess I'm pretty much where I want to be - and where I probably will stay - with my simple Sterlingworth 16ga ejector and my Sterlingworth 20ga; somebody's gotta hold the fort down here at the low end!. I also have a cute little Stevens 5100 in .410, which takes care of that weird little fetish. If I do anything - and probably won't - it might be to pick up a Sterlingworth 12ga (30" or 32" barrels would be cool) as a duck gun to replace my c. 1960's era Fox Model B (Roger Pickney's little adventure in the DGJ a couple issues back inspired that particular urge). That's if I was a real duck hunter, which I'm not. The 28ga doesn't interest me in the least (don't go there, boys; really don't care).

Funny: my age seems to be inversely porportional to the amount of embellishment on a gun that appeals to me. Go figure.

Fin

PS: oops; I see the thread question is "what would be your next 16ga purchase". That's easy. If there was going to be one, it would be a really sweet Fox AE. 16ga of course.

speaking for the blue collar, working class on the board, i looked at the cz bobwhite 16 at "greedy mountain" yesterday.
double triggers, english stock, 26" barrels, i.c. and mod fixed chokes.
splinter forend. it just floated out of the rack and onto my shoulder.
"yuppy mountain" wants $100.00 to $125.00 more than some large outfitters on the net, so i know where i will buy it.
think i might have to put the wingmaster up for sale to raise funds.
if you get a chance, look at one. sssssswwwwwweeeeeettttttt !!!!!!!!!
