Hi all, I posted this on a different forum, but seeing how this involves 16ga guns I'll post here too, hope you don't mind.
Today I had a chance to compare a Spartan 210 (which I do own) and the Stoeger Upland, both in 16ga. I found that overall the Spartan is a much better gun overall. Here's why:
a) Wood: Both have plain wood nothing great. The Spartan finish is much smoother, the Stoeger wood was rough as if it needed to be sanded, checkering about the same.
b) Weight: Stoeger is lighter
c) Blueing: Same
d) Workmanship and fitting: Toss up, Spartan wood to metal fitting a bit better, not by much. Stock was better as to diamentions not as bulky or clubish like the Stoeger IMO. Forearm has better shaped on the Spartan IMO. Action opened easier on the Stoeger.
e) Balance: Spartan balanced better (for me at lest).
f) Overall Apparence: Spartan. Looks more graceful. Seemed more like a classic SxS.
These are my observations and opinions (granted as I said I own a 210, and hoped this didn't influence me as I own several other SxS (AyA, SKB, Savage).
Bottom line is I think you get a lot more for your $$ with the Spartan line (SST, ejectors).
Anyone else have any comments or opinions.
Thanks and God Bless!!
