I ran across a Stevens 5000 in a 20 ga. BUT I have a question. On the side on the receiver is stamped the word "second". What does this mean? I can find no refferance to this marking.

Hopefully one of you that are much more knowledgeable than I can tell me.

Thanks
Doug

Could be part of a two gun set, although most I've seen are marked "1" and "2".

Most likely it was a factory "SECOND" that was sold to an employee. Probably had some cosmetic defect that kept it from passing an inspection, but was still perfectly safe to shoot.

That sounds like the most logical answer. It has a non checkered stock and a checkered forearm. So you are more thsn probably correct. It does lock-up tight and shoots fine.

Thanks for your expertise...
