Cheddite Hull
18.0 gn Green Dot
Win 209 Primer
DR16 Wad
7/8 oz. shot?

I got this load from the spreadsheets, but was wondering if anyone has any experience with this load, or a similar lighter load. I am limited to Cheddite hulls and would like to use DR16 wads. This load seems fairly hot. The pressure is listed at 10,233 psi. Velocity at 1273 fps. Give me the good, bad, and ugly if you have experience. Thanks in advance!

If it is faster than you want drop it a grain or two , I have shot that load at 16grs and it worked good.

I have shot 16.6 grs. of GD with 3/4 oz. of shot. The recoil is minimal and the load patterns beautifully. You can also use 7/8 oz.with 16.6 grs. of GD.

Thanks for the advice guys. I just wanted to make sure that I am in a safe range with those components. Reloading for 16 gauges has been challenging for me with the lack of published data. I feel like I've read every thread I can find on the DR16 wad, and have found a lot of good information from you guys. I wish the market was big enough for the powder companies to develop loads with the wad.

Even when the companies do supply recipes I'm always most confident/comfortable when I check the spreadsheet and the reference column says something like "My Load/Dave E/Lon/MikeC/FN16ga/16gaforum" etc. Smile

Cheddites,Rio primer,16 grains Green Dot DR16 wad and 7/8 oz of shot. Or Federal hull and primer, 16 grains Green Dot,DR16 wad and 78/8 oz. of shot are my very favorite target and dove load in 16 gauge. Very, very low recoil but effective. Great on the old shoulder.

I have a load that uses the same components except for 17.5 gr. of Green Dot. Chronographed it once on a cold 35 degree day and it averaged 1185 fps. Need to try it again on a 70 degree day, I'm sure it will be faster.

Have reloaded and shot 1K rounds of these in Herters hulls and they have worked great.

Thanks for the info Dennis. I wanted to get around 1200 fps, and 17.5 grains may be close based on your experience. I just found out that the range that I shoot out has a chronograph, so I hope to test these loads out on Sunday. I'll let you know the results.
