Getting a Rizzini Verona Monday. Any experience with 2 !/2 " shells on wild pheasants ? Also have a French Brittany pup to go with the new gun. Thinking it should be a HOOT !!! Not sure I want to monkey with reloading as I'd have to get a press. Already have Grabbers in 12, 20, & 28. |

Why sure they will do just fine
One ounce of #5s at 1200 fps will do the deed,
or #6 and a dog

I shoot majority of pheasants with 2.5". B&P shells work outstandingly, Kent Bismuth
Polywad, some RST (but little slow for me)
Kent Gamebore also.
Pheasants over a good point, 2.5's will do whatever a 2.75 will do, if I handload, well, the 2.75" loads is what I use in my roll crimped short loads, so not changing a damn thing. |

RST 2 1/2, 1oz load of # 6's is all that I have used, worked great, pheasants are dead, didn't know they were shot with short shells.

I heard that rumor back in my younger, dumber days. About the time I heard that a 30-06 was too small for elk.

Ditto: RST 2 1/2" #6. 7,000 PSI. Can't beat them.

Nastyg, In general when chasing Phez, I grab a repeater with 1 1/8 oz loads. But the times I've taken my Elsie, its been with the same 1 oz RST load mentioned here. Not counting phez farms, I've probably killed 5 with this combo. That said they've been early season, crossing shots where I've put bb's into head/neck area and they've been very dead. Don't know that I would use it for late season. Hopefully your Frenchie will turn into a great pointer and give you lots of close shots. My Frenchie will be @ year and a half come this opener and is a work in progress. Where'd you get yours? |

1 1/8 ounce loads easily fit into 2 9/16, 65mm or 2 1/2 inch hulls. In the days of transition from 2 9/16 inch to 2 3/4 inch, the manufacturers sold the same loads in both lengths. I load 1 1/8 oz all the time, and you can get 1 1/4 ounce in the higher capacity hulls. You might have to roll crimp, however. But I have to admit 1 ounce loads are quite effective in 16 or any other gauge, and much more pleasant to shoot. |

Got my Britt Biscuit from Blur Chip Kennels in Iowa. Think I'll get a case of B&P
2 1/2" 5's to try. |

Myself and some older gentlemen used them in 6 from rst and dropped them very easily. An ounce of 6's was still an ounce of 6's slapping the birds |
