....and the message delivered was, "How about rabbit hunting Saturday morning?"

Hmmm...., let's see. We have 2" of fresh powdery snow and a world class beagle named "Josie" to unleash.

The next question (to myself) was, "What shotgun should I take?"

The answer came quick.

Thanks, Mark. I figured that you'd have something to say. Wink It's in appreciative hands and seems just right for a quiet and snowy Wisconsin woodlot. I have yet to shoot it.

I love the old ELSIE. Something about her makes me smile. Smile

Sounds like a fine outing. Enjoy and maybe that means rabbit stew over the holidays. Back in the 70ís there used to be a country French restaurant on Chicagoís north side called Byronís and the fellows specialty was wild game. I ate there a couple of times and the second time he had rabbit stew. Now this was a long time ago but I donít think I have ever had a better meal since.

Good Hunting,
Mike

The first of several transitions from farm fields to the Mississippi River, you can barely see the Minnesota bluffs above the far pines.

Can't say I've ever been compelled to own and hunt with an old American classic like this LC Smith, but I did enjoy thinking about time times and places this gun might have experienced. I could only imaging the volume of waterfowl along the Mississippi River in 1929; the screaming wind of the 1940 Armistice Day Storm where 20 duck hunters perished, and the rural way of the life and the times. My mind wandered to the pheasant hunting of the 1940's and 50's my dad used to talk about where if you didn't have your limit after an hour you were simply a poor shot. Maybe these old doubles just allow us to better churn up collective memories that we wish were still the reality. Whatever the case, I'm really glad I bought this old Smith. It belongs in the field.

I shot the last one! I was just in the wrong spots yesterday. I took a different stand in the main honey-hole and of course I could see them squirting out where I usually post. Smile

Great fun tho! There were four of us and the dog handler (Black Belt) got most of the action.

It was about 20 degrees which isn't bad at all for Dec. 23, but my 1000 gr, LaCrosse boots were not quite keeping up. Lots of standing. Next time I'll lace up the pack boots.
