Tomorrow ends our season over here , I've booked off work as have four hunting partners , just saw weather forecast and snow is forecast for the early hours , really looking forward to getting out on the last day . This has been a good season and it's been great following the adventures of the members on here , surely the best forum on the net. I will let you all know how we get on tomorrow but until then all the best WJ. |

Well the snow came back for the last day of the season but we didn't let that stop us having a wee walkabout in the woods , the birds didn't really co-operate but we managed to bag a few ,none fell to my gun I only fired two shots early on and my hands were that cold at that point I missed, well that's my excuse anyway . Though there wasn't a lot of action it was great to be out on the last day ,we have had a really enjoyable season which featured more days out in the snow than I can remember and it makes a change from last year where it seemed like it was raining ever Saturday , I hope you all have had a good season where ever you are. All the best WJ. |

thanks for posting text and photos.
dumb question, but...
What are the birds? Do they hold for a point? Do they taste good?
I'm already excited for next fall. My dog should be ready by that time. He'll be ~21 months - Hopefully not yet into the terrible 2's |

Guys thanks for the response , Manofthewoods the birds are Pheasant the one in the foreground is I think called a Melanistic Pheasant , we saw only about four or five of them about our shoot and refrained from shooting them all season but this one didn't make it I'm afraid , we had a £50 fine on them at the start of the season but it was never charged but anyone who shot one was always in for a bit of stick. They hold to point but no pointing dogs with us at the minute though I was brought up shooting over my fathers German short haired pointers , and the birds sure do taste good ,
Dave we had four dogs with us on Wednesday two Cocker spaniels a springer spaniel and a Springador which is a cross between a springer spaniel and a Labrador .
Thanks again WJ. |
