Have seen these advertised, at very reasonable (OK, cheap) prices. Has anyone actually handled or shot this gun? What is its weight? Any info. on the fit and finish is appreciated. |

Doc, I have wondered the same thing myself. They are listed on www.gzanders.com as being in stock. The listed weight is 7.6 lbs and thats the same weight for the 12 gauge, so I doubt it's correct.
I did see some 20 ga BSA guns about a year ago at a gun show. They seemed about what you would expect for the money. Not high quality but not bad. You know you can't expect Browning quality for that price.
There was an article, I believe in the American Hunter, a year or so ago about The BSA auto in 28 gauge. I remember they said they had a problem with something like a rod bending. You might try to look that article up. I do not know any one who has one though. |

I am not 100% positive on this but it seems to me that I heard the Turkish made semiautos were a pretty big part of the reason they closed the doors. In June of '05 they issued a recall of the Model 200 series sa shotguns for the possibility that they could fire out of battery. For a pretty new company they couldn't handle the financial hit they took on this and filed bankruptcy.
Too bad that they chose to import some real low budget stuff, their higher end doubles were actually pretty nice, made in Spain by Zabala. You can still find them on the auction sites, and read about them on http://www.billhanusbirdguns.com/bsaroyal.html
They also had a lower grade of ou's that I think were made by the same outfit that makes the Mossberg and Khan ou's.

Yeah, I heard pretty much the same thing as Berg said. The semiauto problem while not really that big a deal, was enough to trigger a bankruptcy protection filing (no pun intended).
Too bad, really. As Berg indicates, their Spanish doubles are decent guns. I bought one on a whim at a store in Texas while out on a business trip. It is not a really fancy gun but as you can see on the Bill Hanus webpage, it is not a clunker by any means. I just could not pass up a 16 SXS with interchangeable chokes and a single trigger...a combo I like! Plus, I don't buy guns for a showroom look, I buy them to shoot in thickets and woods! Took the BSA out on a 2 day bird shoot just last week and it handled like a champ!

If things sound too good to be true... No deal is worth while when guns fire while not in battery. |

Doc,
I bought one a few months ago NIB off Gun Broker. Thought I had conducted good research, but didn't. I went to the web site listed in the paper work that came in the box register on line and foud as another responder that the company and the importer has gone under. I did find the recall notice and a web site that had been managed by GAMO company at one time that had been contracted to fix guns in the US. They had shut this site down
The gun handles really well from the dry fire stand point. Built on a 16 GA frame. However, the safety is so tight that you can hardley move it with one finger. Believe it would be a good shooter if it didnt have the problems.
Seems there are quite a few of these guns in this series (200) on the web market for less than $400.00. I would not buy one unless you find a smith that knows the problem and can fix it.
I'm planning to contact Gander Mountain gunsmith department and see if they can make the repairs. |

CDNN has some of these on closeout.
$239.99 w/synthetic stock.
I called and asked about the recall. They received the guns from BSA in May '06. The recall was in June "05. So these are supposedly post recall guns.
BSA is of course, out of business. So most likely no warranty.
