I'm still looking for a Merkel 1620 straight stock, splinter forarm and single trigger...

I'm starting to think that the specific configuration that I'm looking for is a needle in a haystack or a four leaf clover at best. I really am kicking myself for not bidding on the one that was on Gunbroker around thanksgiving.

That's gonna be a tough one to find . If I've learned anything over the years , if you see a gun that has been discontinued but really want it , pay the premium and get it now or forever be pissed off . Good luck in your search .

Yeah, I am kicking myself now for not pulling the trigger. It was the correct decision though. I had made a decision to stop adding more guns to my closet, but get rid of ones I didn't ever shoot (and had no sentimental value) and finance future purchases with the proceeds of those sales. The number of guns would shrink, but the quality would increase over time. If I only had made this decision a month later, I'd have that Merkel 1620 straight stock and single trigger now. Of course, I'd be pining away for something else I guess... there will always be that next gun that you can't keep thinking about.

Cabelas has a 16 Chapuis with straight stock and single trigger that you might want to check out. I've had both Chapuis and Merkels. They are both outstanding.

Thanks for the tip. That is a very nice looking gun! I'm still a novice when it comes to European side by side shotguns, and have never heard of Chapuis. (it's a French gun, so it's likely not intended to defend anyone, ha ha). At one point I never knew what a Merkel 1620 was, so maybe this is in the same class. The price range appears to be ballpark. It also has a straight stock and single trigger that I am looking for.

For anyone who has the ability to discern the difference, I wonder how this Chapuis would compare to the Merkel 1620?

Chapuis is mostly known in the states for their excellent rifles which are a staple on African safaris. They make great shotguns as well. I owned a Chapuis Super Orien over under in 20 gauge. It was great mechanically and the nicest handling gun I've ever owned. Every bit as nice as my Merkel 2116. Unfortunately, for me anyways, it had double triggers which I never got used too.

Champlin Firearms imports Chapuis to the states. You can call them and ask for JJ who is their gunsmith. He's French and knows Chapuis better than anyone in the states. 580-237-7388

BTW if you do decide to check out the Chapuis I would offer 15% lower tha what they are asking as Cabelas will often deal on used guns. They'll also ship to a nearby Cabelas, if you live near one, for $25 where you can check it out with no obligation to buy. Hope this helps and good luck with whatever gun you choose.

In case anyone is interested, there is a beautiful 1620 with double triggers for sale at Cabela's in East Hartford CT.

Thanks for thinking of me. I've seen several 1620's that have met some of my criteria, but not all... I'll hold out until I find one that checks all of the boxes.

Thanks, but this is an EL... I want a standard 1620, not the 1620EL

Just bumping this a little in case someone out there knows about a 1620 or 1622 with English stock and single trigger for sale.
