A last minute cancellation has left one opening available for the 16'ers Hunt in Montezuma, Ks ( 30 mi SW of Dodge City) next Tuesday the 14th.
If anyone has an interest in filling this slot let me know and I'll give you the specifics. There would be enough space for a party of two if you brought a buddy along.
Several of us will hunt the remainder of the week around the area as well.

Howdy Brad,
Don't mean to hijack this thread, but looks like I'll need some thermal undies for next week. 27F-57F.
Y'all may have to haul this frozen Texan's carcass out of the field.
See you there,
HHH |

HHH,
And here I am disappointed the temps are likely going to about the same as the past couple of years. I was hoping for some teens at night with dare I say it...a little snow and days in the mid 30's. |

Looks like Terry Boyer, brdhnt, will be joining us. He's going to drive up from Lubbock Mon am and meet up with H.H., 3Doc, tjwalker, and me and hunt around Meade before driving up to Montezuma. tj is on the road right now on his way to KC and he and I and some KC huntin' friends are going to go quail hunting in MO tomorrow. 3Doc arrives KC tomorrow night on a flight from CA.
Drought obviously has affected WIHAs in Western KS BUT I found two fields that had been planted in Milo then given up on and the insurance payment taken by the farmer. Found a 14 bird covey of bobwhite in one-didn't know there were still bobwhite in SW KS Talked today to a guy who hunted around Russell opening weekend-found the same sort of field that was too thick with burrs to let the dogs into. They walked in and about every 50 feet a pheasant flushed SO the KS birds are there if you can find a spot with cover. The fields only in prairie grass looked pretty thin and I found several that had been cut for hay.
I might have computer access tomorrow night for awhile again. |

drew and all going to Kansas:
Spoke with Stuart Young - Last Chance Wings and Labs in Russell KS - today. He had a group of 6 hunters over the opening weekend (too bad not shooters ). All birds found in crp/grass/prairie - milo NOT cut and HOT (72 Saturday and 75 Sunday (85 today) so stayed out of planted fields.
On Saturday pushed out more than 100 birds, but hunters only bagged 18 roosters. On Sunday hunted 2 hours - bagged 8 birds - saw plenty more. (Told you group not shooters - no 16ers among the bunch )
On Sunday afternoon after hunters gone back to home parts - while scouting Stuart saw Milo being cut and hunting party around field with combine in it. PLENTY of birds flying out and shooting (like driven shoot) fast and furious.
Stuart votes for pushing back the opening to same time as last year (would be this weekend) - too hot and grains not cut.
My dates set Dec. 16, 17, 18 - revdocdrew is joining me. Should be good then....
good luck to all this weekend.... |

74 in KC today but got in a great preserve quail hunt this morning with tj and some old friends. Cold front coming through tomorrow with snow showers in S. Dakota but Sat should be clear. Looks like Montezuma will be in the low 60s next week 3Doc arriving tonight. |

Depending on the outcome of my sons Little League football playoffs I will arrive in Montezuma either late morning Tuesday to hunt the Walk in stuff or late afternoon following 16 hours on the road.
Come on cold front !

Raining in Omaha, few snow showers this am in Mitchell. Looks like the hvy snow has gone on east. tomorrow clear and cold but windy-may be forced to abase myself and break out the 12g
Looks like we may be able to meet up with Jimmie, Brad and Terry Mon. for a couple of hours of hunting on our way to Montezuma and weather should be nice Mon. and Tuesday. The word out of eastern S. Dakota is that the bird numbers are as good as last year-3Doc and tj are in for a treat
will update next time I have computer access. |

All made it to Mitchell in time to hit Cabelas. 3Docs recently purchased 16g. early Savage Sterly is sweet. 19 degrees this am but up to 45 today with south wind. Guys up here from all over the south and midwest-Carolinas, Tenn., Ala., Fla., KY. Everybody seems to be smiling
May have to combine a 16ers KS AND S. Dakota hunt next year
More later. |

Howdy Doc,
I'm on my way to Wichita tomorrow, Sunday morning.
Got enough clothes packed to equip the Russian army in January. May be like Charlie Brown so wrapped up I can't move.
By the way, I drive a white Chevy 2500 HD Diesel 4WD pickup with a matching topper on the back.
I'll have my cell phone on once I hit Kansas.
Happy trails,
HHH |
