Welcome and well done! I still shoot my 12 gauge for ducks, but I've been giving my 16 gauge repeater a duck hunt now and then.

I’m familiar with some of the reloading options out there. I reload center fire. Three children under 5 years old, work and a wife leaves little time or money for another reloading hobby. Gotta stick to the factory stuff, for now.

Welcome aboard. Any pooch involved in that hunt? If so we also like pics of bird dogs, or any dog for that matter.

Good Hunting,
Mike

Good job with the proper tool! Back in the day, I shot a lot of ducks with a Model 37 16 gauge, both with reloaded #5 lead and later with #2 steel (greenheads here in AR, except for teal season, which was #4 steel). I jokingly referred to it as "the death ray" back then (gun nick-names has been another recent thread on this site).

Only problem was having to use all those other 16s at the time--Auto 5, Model 12, Citori, etc. They get lonely in the closet!

My brother has also killed a ton of ducks with Dad's old M37 (1948), as well as he has continue to use it on upland game for the past 60 years!

Welcome! Plenty of ducks get killed by this crowd with a 16. You’ll fit right in here!

One other benefit from reloading your own Bismuth is not only can you get the size you want but the shot from rotometals.com is the same size we use here in the US. The Bismuth from Kent uses european sizing, so their 5s and more like our 6s.

I wondered about that. I found a few pellets in some meat from some early season teal and wood ducks. For most of my duck hunting with the 16 the #4 steel from federal worked quite well

Good Hunting,

First pic is from opener, with the kennel in the truck. One year old lab of my friends. Many, many hours of training and he won’t duck hunt. He’s now a great upland dog though. As far as we can tell he just doesn’t like water.

Good shooting! I load some 16 gauge bismuth. It works well. My 13 year old shot his swan this year with a 16 gauge M37 with #2 bismuth handloads.

Welcome to the forum! Glad to see you putting a 16 to good use in the swamp. I see you are in Minnesota. I think there might be one or two other 16 gauge shooters around those parts. There was talk of some of them getting together to shoot some targets next spring. It could happen.
