Arrived home 4:30 this am after a 15 hour drive (and adding almost 4000 miles to the vehicle since 11-6 )
tjwalker and brdhnt will post soon as the official trip scribes but are still in Kansas hunting today with Jimmie and 3Doc. Paul headed back to Denver and we missed meeting Brad and mod11rem.
Great guns, great guys, great dogs (several impressive long distance retrieves by one of Tim Brown's black labs), great shooting (mostly by tj but Stan and Paul came on strong at the end), great weather despite the forcasts, great S. Dakota and KS pheasants, great eating, and GREAT BIG SMILES BY EVERYBODY
And the best part-BRDHNT (sorta ) WILL BE ORGANIZING NEXT YEARS 16ERS HUNT.
More to follow soon! |

Thanks for the report, Drew. Glad to hear it went so well.
Will pics be part of the official filings from the scribes? |

Sounds like a great time was had by all, Drew. I am glad the weather held and the birds flew strong. |

Drew,Glad to hear a good time was had by all. Well almost all.
I am still moping around and I swear I saw "Buck" the wonder Lab flip me off when he didn't think I was looking.
Did HHH get along ok with his new NID?
FYI- I'm reloading Kansas for 1/4 -1/10 if anyone is interested.

HHH showed up with a portable gun safe that 3 guys helped him carry down to the basement/lodge He had a nice Parker hinge-pin Sterlingworth Gun Company rescued from the evil gun chopping CAS guys and the aformentioned sweet early NID 16 (with cocking indicators.) He carried his 16g M-12 and was presented with about the only held point/flushed at his feet bird which he dispatched with the help of brdhnt. I think he pulled out 2-3 more guns (and had about a case of various 16g loads) but it's all a bit hazy right now. |

Knowing Buck, he had good cause to flip you off, he wouldn't do it in any other circumstance. I hope you were especially nice to him this week after breaking his heart and turning around.
1/4-1/10? I might actually have some vacation time by then. When do you need to know? Where are you going?

Howdy Drew and crew,
Well, I made it back to Texas. If I had a sail on my truck, would not have needed diesel. Went through several dust storms so bad I could not see. Drove about 45 mph and hoped I didn't hit anything.
I really enjoyed the trip and meeting everyone. That one held point was picture perfect, but no one had a camera on it. I do have some pictures that I will post. First, I have to load them onto another pc, then cut a disc, then transfer them here. May take a few days.
Happy trails,
HHH |

3Doc, brdhnt, and tj should be about home now and since the best offense is a good defense, I thought I'd explain the new Kansas Olympic Field Discipline: race a black lab over 200 meters of winter wheat to a downed but far from dead pheasant, have the bird take flight when you're 20 meters away (having been badly beaten by the dog), and shoot departing bird (with a 16 of course) That's my story anyway and please remember how them Texicans tend to exagerate! |

I think that's rev's secret interpretive code lingo for "black farm dog was chasing a big pheasant down a milo field when they jumped in the truck and ran over the bird as it crossed the gravel road" then the bird was shot by a group wielding 16's as it hobbled down the ditch.
Am I close Rev ? |

I'm just back home, for all of you that didn't or couldn't make it; eat your hearts out. Someone wounded a rooster that flew out into a very open wheatfield. RevDoc sprinted out to it, and I do mean sprinted. When he was within range, very neatly shot it, and would have made the retrieve himself if not for his running after said bird coming to the attention of the pack of labs, which then raced him to the downed bird. If you can believe someone who owns racehorses. I personally had a wonderful time, despite being reminded to smile because I was in South Dakota and Kansas and was bird hunting. Yesterday was tough sledding, the wind was blowing at 40-50 MPH with gusts even higher, but Birdhunters Britts found several roosters and three coveys of quail. I'll post the pictures sometime tomorrow. It was great to meet everyone that came. Everyone got birds, and RevDoc outperformed the guides dogs in Kansas, even without an E-collar. |

And who are you going to believe, a preaching doc or a guy who owns racehorses [/quote]
R,
I think I will believe the racehorse guy.
