I think a quality 1 oz. load of 7 1/2's will do good work in that Cyl tube for woods birds.

I would say so.
Not many holes at all.

7 1/2s will have 50 more pellets than the 7s in the picture above.

One thing I noticed and liked when I shot mine was how it extracted the shells and held them up in a way that made it easy to grab them. The primers were struck hard. Nice shooting gun!

Yup--I had no trouble grabbing and reloading out in the field and at a slow trot, I might add.
I do believe it could be managed while holding the reins in my teeth and shooting under my horse with a colt.

Very nice gun, Dave! Finally got on here with my iPad so I could really see the pictures! You will certainly enjoy this in your retirement!

Dave, Did you pattern any 1 1/8 oz loads?

Nope, just a few poi shots and the one B&P load of 7 shot. There's a good chance I'll hold my hunting loads to 1 oz and maybe the 1 1/16 oz B&P loads in this gun. I'll save the heavy loads for my Sw16. I'm not worried about the Iside handling the heavy loads, I just don't like shooting heavy recoiling loads in light doubles. The B&P load got my attention in the Iside, although it was the last of 11 shots at paper. The SW16 is a recoil anomaly and handles those nasty 1 1/8 oz loads sweetly;)

I know what you mean Dave. I shot my 310as Husky sxs 12 recently, and used 1 1/4oz heavy field loads since it's a long range gun and the birds were skittish. No problem. They worked great and recoil was moderate. However, someone had given me a box of Kent Fast Upland 1 1/2 oz #6 baby magnums at 1400 fps, and I had never shot them, so I figured, what the heck, and put one in the xf left barrel and let 'er rip at some long range fleeing chukars. BAWOOM! Never again. Maybe those would be somewhat manageable in a modern auto, but certainly not in a double. I will be donating the other 24 rounds to my dog club banquet auction. Shocked

1 1/2 oz. @ 1400 fps through an upland double, Mark, you're a better man than I am for even attempting it! Ouch!

One year out in South Dakota we just finished up a ditch and as we were yakking a rooster came pounding across a field giving a long shot. I had my Beretta 12 gauge OU and I grabbed a 3" steel #2 and fired at the bird. These were Kent Fasteel loads I use for ducks, and I had them along to use in my semi-auto for any nontoxic areas. The recoil was profound and a mental note was quickly filed to NEVER do that again!

At the shot the bird didn't react, but it awkwardly veered into a ditch about 200 yards up the crossroad. When we got there my older draht pointed, then lunged in and grabbed a dead bird. One of those deuces connected!
