What do you think about dedicating a specific month for National Postal Clay Target Match for 16 gauge shotguns?

Events could be shot at your home club during the specified period. Events would include Trap and/or Skeet. [no way to handicap various Sporting Clays courses, but all trap and skeet are the same, except perhaps for background.]

If there is sufficient interest - we could work out further details.

Kindly post your thoughts.

Some people will always cheat, just how they are. I think it might be a good way to get my local buddies out to play. Informal but still some competition
A Texas shoot/get together sounds good too.

Many good comments.

I am satisfied that we have no one here who would submit embellished or inaccurate scores. A postal match would allow for all to participate regardless of their geographic location.

I thought 100 target races in Trap and/or Skeet would help eliminate tie scores which would be more common in 25 or 50 target races.

I would have liked to included Sporting Clays, but some courses are easier than others-presenting some obvious issues which would need to be addressed. Trap and Skeet events present no such problem.

We would have modest awards based on the number of entries. Cost would be nominal as well.

Keep posting your thoughts please,

One thought, maybe more Surprised
I like to shoot many different shotguns during the shotgun days, so 100 16 gauge only out of ONE GUN might cause the other guns in the fold to grumble
Mike

Like today, was an L.C. Smith, an French SXS and a different French SXS

Last week was AYA week

Thursday may be 410 day because doves start on Saturday Smile

BUT a one round of skeet or trap weekly might do the trick

I am trying to run the skeet range and shoot as the same time, most
days it is no issue. Like today we shot about 100 rounds of skeet and trap between 9 and 12 and I was able to get in four rounds of skeet/crazy.

Postal? That's what it would take here. I would have to ship myself and my gun to someplace that has trap and skeet!

Interesting idea. I'm only a casual skeet shooter but open to the concept presented in the OP.

what do you win?
bragging rights?

how will you class the shooters?
youre willing to comepte against known aaa professional shooters on the net?
I must decline only out of respect, because odds are I can out shoot the vast majority of all of you. Wink
im hoping you sorta see what im saying and apply it to the goal of your postal match.

just like other forums where they have bullseye postal matches. whos to say the guy isn't 2 feet away from the target?

don't get me wrong. I understand the purpose of cyber social games and the geographical obstacles of real matches and travel. but....without ref's and umps....its a free for all.

now you understand why in invite people to my range. its monitored, witnessed, and prizes are awarded. it has form, function, and purpose.

if cyber matches get buddies to go out to a local range, that's a positive. but worrying about scores, takes away from it.

this is why larger organizations (register scores)....all scores are certified true.
without it, its one big cat fight.

s-clays as mentioned isn't a fair platform. skeet and trap is more uniform and will do better, but again, you must deal with weather and free 'gimmie un-regulated.

cyber anything tends to take away from authenticity. call me old fashion. id rather travel and do it for real.
whats next? cyber hunts?

just my opinion, nothing else, hope it helps.

Maybe we could do something like people sending in photos of the group all shooting 16's and showing off the guns they enjoy. As far as scores we can just keep those to ourselves because the rest of the guys in the photo may not want to be seen as being beat by the other guy.

Did you have a particular month in mind? Spring/early summer?

All good comments.

Some additional thoughts-
- A 16 Gauge Society participation certificate would be appropriate.
- Grand prize would be based on a drawing rather than high score.
- Re-entry with a gun change permitted.
- Shoot date TBA but in the Fall.
- Scores and gun type used would be submitted-but not be posted.

Keep those ideas coming!
