Could someone post a pic of the mentioned Cheddite 1632 wad? The Graf site doesn't have an image of it. Thanks.

left to right, 1632, Z16, SG16

The Cheddite 1632 has thicker plastic and a full 1 1/8 oz cup. It's larger diameter fits the straight wall tubes much better than the Rem SP16

Here are the chronograph numbers for:

Federal 16 ga. 2 3/4" hull w paper basewad
CCI209 Primer
21.0 Grains 800-X
Cheddite 1632 wad
1 1/8 oz. #6 Lawrence Magnum shot

Chrono'd 8 rounds

Average 1218 FPS
Hi 1240 FPS
Lo 1206 FPS
EV 34 FPS
Sd 10 FPS

Not bad.

I patterned a few also......but I hate counting pellets so you are going to have to wait. Very Happy Very Happy

Mark, with your experience in these things, would you hazard a guess as to how much difference it would make to use the Cheddite primer instead of the CCI? Since I've already got several boxes loaded with them. You dropped 80 fps with the change to Federal hull, CCI primer and 1 grain less powder. All have some effect, Maybe the powder and primer change made the majority of the difference.

ole_270,

I don't have a whole bunch of experience with Cheddite primers........25 FPS more is the best SWAG I can give.

I didn't have any reference ammo today, so there might be some error in the chrono numbers, but I think they are reasonably close.

Thanks for the pics. The Cheddite 1632 is the same as the Activ G-32, of which I have a quantity. The SG-16 is the same as the Activ G-28.

Thanks Mark for doing that , were those loads 21 or 21.5grs .

Do you think that with the primer and hull change that pressures with the original 22.3gr load would be in speck . <11500psi>

Wonder where Grafs is getting these wads, some have argued that cheddite doesn't make them. If they are the same as the Active G32 wad, Active has been out of the game for several years, maybe Grafs aquired the closeout stock and is selling them till they run out. At my age, I've got enough to last out my pheasant hunting lifetime so it won't really matter.

They make the SG16, but I didn't see anything looking like the 1632 Grafs calls a Cheddite?

fn16ga,

I think it is going to be iffy.

Now I remember why I didn’t pursue the load with 800-X. By the time I backed off the powder enough, the velocity would be under the 1250+ FPS I was looking for.

I think the Longshot load makes more sense.

Here are the pattern averages for 3 patterns.(sorry it wasn't 10 but my limit is 3 patterns) 1 1/8 oz. #6 Lawrence Magnum 256 pellets in the load. 30 yards using a 0.015" choke.

Total pattern percentage - 83%
Pellet hits in 21"core - 145
Pellet hits in 30" annular - 70
Total pellet hits 215
Central thickening ratio C:A - 2:1

Excellent stuff for sure.
