What hulls fo you prefer to reload, Federal Game Shok or RGL? Which one will reload more before the crimp wears out?

The reason I ask is because those are the 2 cartridges mostly widley available in my area. I have shot both, but have only reloaded RGL. The RGL give me about 4 reloads.

Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Purple shells are always better.

On a similar note, and I hope this is not hijacking the post, is there any difference between the federal game shock and Federal wing-shok hulls. The wing-shock loads are a little hot for my tastes.

James.

PS in my limited experience with RGLs I do not like the hulls but I know a lot of people do. I prefer straight walled hulls but I don't use much fine grained powder either.

Just looked at one of each federal hull in my gun room

They appear to be the same hull whether wing-shook or normal field load

You will get more mileage out of the purple shells. RGLs fail at the crimp, Federal crimps last longer but they fail at the primer hole by leaking gas about the same time the crimp segments split.

I prefer the federal hulls. Limited reloading here, but the crimp memory on the rgl hulls is pretty strong. Enough to be an annoyance for me.

I usually load paper wad loads so straight wall cases are better suited. I think the appropriate wad selection is better for the straight wall cases. But I am sitting on most of a case o R16 wads, so I’m lucky to have that covered if I decide the Remington hull crimp memory isn’t so annoying.

The recoil on the federal 16’s factory load doesn’t feel as sharp to me as the rgl’s. Not a big difference, but if shooting high volume it might get to me.

I’ll often chamber a federal #8 in the first barrel and a rgl #7.5 in the second barrel for pen quail at the dog club. Especially if it’s a windy day. I buy them both but prefer the federals, except the price is higher. Should reload more I guess.

Thanks! I think I will order some of the federal 1 1/8 oz game-shok. Once again I have failed to reload and the season will quickly be upon us!

I really like the Remington Extended range load in 6s. They are green hulls very different from RGLs. Last year dog flushed a preserve hen a bit too far away. I let the dog get a bit too far, we were close to the end of the hunt and I was getting tired. Hen got up and angled across the field but at an angle that brought it a bit closer. I decided what the hell and fired the rear trigger. Hen dropped like a rock. Had to be at least 45-50 yards. Not sure I have ever been that far in front of a bird like that before!!
Talk about a confndence boost.

I prefer purple and truth be told load most anything other than RGL. I have not had any luck with them. The plastic seems too brittle to me.
