Marlin 90 ST occasionally fires both barrels simultaneously. Is there a common reason for this? What should I check?

I do not know what could cause a Model 90ST to double fire. However, the Model 90ST has an inertia weight that is supposed to keep the gun from double firing. Maybe the internal mechanism just needs to be cleaned.

Hopefully it's just crud in the mechanism/ sears. Worst case scenario is that one or both sears have worn to the point of losing the proper engagement angle. Do you always fire the same barrel first? If so, see if it doubles when firing the other first.

I don't know about others, but my wife's 90 ST has non-selectable trigger.

She occasionally has the opposite, and less painful problem. The second barrel fails to fire maybe 1 in 20.
