I just got word from my boss that I can take off after finishing my normal route tonight since he has somebody else to do the activities route. I can be on the road about 1700 and be there for night shooting after all. |

perfect day. warm. no wind. lots of people here. camp sites are full! no mud!
night birds done. rats...i missed one on skeet.
weather is holding for tomorrow. its working out better to get a many shooters thru friday and sat, so annie and turkey can go earlier....allowing many to shoot left over games at the end...then have the ceremony.
club 60 is looking to be record numbers. cant wait! |

I left early because I was disgusted with myself for getting so tired so quickly and letting myself get so out of shape over the winter.
I felt much better after being on the road for a couple hours and stopping for dinner at Braum's in Joplin and then filling my gas tank for $2.35/gal.
Went to bed at 2130 and slept till 0730 this morning.

This year was my first shoot at Vanzant, but I'll definitely be back. It was very well run by bobski with his gracious wife's able assistance. The facility is as good as it gets, with a layout that takes advantage of the natural terrain to give as good a look at the clays as any range I've ever shot at. I pulled my trailer down there and camped out at the range in deluxe comfort (my camping days of sleeping on the ground are far in my past). All the competitors were as nice as the hosts and just wonderful to shoot with. The only caution is if you use a Garmin GPS and enter the coordinates for the range, it will take you down some muddy two tracks they named road 269 and you'll come to the range from the back side. I was afraid to roll down my windows for fear of hearing banjos playing back there. Can't remember the last time I forded a creek at a low water crossing towing a trailer. The correct way in has paved roads all the way to the property. Garmin found those roads when I entered Home for my destination. A much more enjoyable drive.
Despite my spat with bichin Betty on Garmin, it was a super experience and an opportunity to shoot a few shooting games I'd never done before. Y'all missed a good one if you didn't make it. Thanks Bobski. |
