I bought a sxs 16 gauge today and have done a lot of research on the shotgun,, it has the tenite (plastic) stock which leads me to believe it was maybe made in the 60's but all the info I see says it was made in 1931, that sounds to early for a plastic stock, I will keep looking,, it has to A's in circles stamped on the receiver and to F's all on the receiver but you have to take the barrels off to see them ???????????????? |

Your gun was made between 1940 and 1950. In 1940 the J. Stevens Arms Co. introduced a version if their J. Stevens No. 530 (5100 action) walnut stocked double with a stock and forearm made of Tenite and called it the No. 530M --
This remained the offering through the 1946 J. Stevens Arms Co. catalog. In 1947, Savage Arms Corp. consolidated their arms making operations at their old J. Stevens factories at Chicopee Falls, Mass. and the Savage factory at Utica, NY, went to making products for the post war housing boom. In the 1947 Savage/Stevens/Fox/Springfield catalog this same Tenite stocked double was offered as the Springfield No. 311.
By the 1948 Savage/Stevens/Fox catalog This same Tenite stocked double was being offered as the Stevens Model 311 --
For 1951, the Tenite stock was gone and the Stevens Model 311 got a wood stock with walnut finish --

Researcher is the best. A true asset to this forum.
I have a set(12-16-20-410) of Springfield double guns with the 5100 action. All 4 of mine have a setter engraved on the left side of the receiver . Any clue as to the dates that this engraving was used? They also are wood not tenite. |
