50 years ago today (Dec 13, 1968) after a flight the previous day from Danang, RVN to Okinawa, then through a bunch of processing and onto another flight, non-stop Okinawa to Norton AFB,Calif. It was in the late afternoon of the 13th when we lifted off from Okinawa, then we flew through the evening, night and into the next morning, landing at Norton actually a few hours before we left (according to the clock and calendar). I was sooo glad to be back on US soil. fifty years later I can still vividly recall the feel of both feet landing on the tarmac. Say what they will, there's NO place like the USA!!!

AmericanMeet,

You bet there is no place on earth like the USA, I felt the same way returning from Viet Nam more than a few times. It's a feeling only a combat Veteran can understand.
Thanks much for your service!

Thanks for your service for our country. I only rang up 47 yrs. on the 4th of Dec.
I tell some that it is a good experience to have behind me.

Thank your for serving sir.

You are so right about there being no place like the U.S. I still vividly remember setting foot back on our soil as a kid. Even as an 11 year old, I was overwhelmed with joy and kissed the ground.

American Meet,
I can never fully appreciate that feeling, because I've never served....and for that reason alone I salute you and wish you the Joy of the Season!

To all the veterans on this site,
Your sacrifice for my country yesterday gave me my freedom today. There is but One selfless gift greater than this that readily comes to mind, and this is the Season it all began.

Merry Christmas and glad tidings to all of you!
