Son number three got home late but was in the blind at dawn. 2 limits of geese in the bag by 9:30 AM. I was shooting my '51 Sweet sixteen. Luke (the wonder dog) had as much fun as the rest of us.

Very nice! Good old fashioned waterfowling! Luke looks like he's definitely in his element!

Congratulations on a successful hunt for you and Luke. Nice way to start a holiday.

your dog shoots an A-5!?

Well naturally, you're Jeff - what else would he shoot...

Does the dog retrieve your birds too or just his own?

Jeff,
If you posted it previously I missed it, but what's your load for geese in the A5?

Pete

Luke just shoots his mouth off. If we shoot and no birds fall he barks at us. If we let birds into the decoys without shooting (mergansers etc) he barks. It's about the funniest thing ever seen in a blind.

Luke only kills cripples. He carries them till he gets where we cant see him. Then you hear a sound like stepping on a bag of potato chips. when Luke comes back into view the birds are limp. He won't do it if you can see him, he knows it's the wrong thing to do.

The load was 1 oz of Bizmuth 5's over Longshot, BP16 wad. I don't remember the recipe right now, I loaded them last year. I pick my shots with 5's, all 40, most closer. Most are head/neck shots, kind of like shooting a turkey but flying...as the season progresses I'll go to the Twelve and 1 1/4 oz of Bizmuth 2's.
