Dave in Maine,

And probably nothing more mischievous! Into everything imaginable and then some.

bad experience.
bought gun.
gave credit card #.
faxed ffl.

3 days later store called said gun was sold.
it wasn't.
it was transferred to another cabelas store for a customer to (look at)
called store it was enroute to and talked to store mgr and explained issue.
when gun arrived, he held gun and did not show it.
called original store and transfered all papers and credit info to his store.
he entered it in his books and sold it to me and got the sale.
dufus store was up around minn somewhere.
good store was in Nebraska.

beware.

3BD,
Yup. Positive. It's clearly written on the Used Gun Purchase Agreement they make you sign at time of purchase. They've also removed layaway as an option for purchase, and they will not remove trigger locks until your at the register. Three times in a row. Normally I'd walk immediately, but the deals were just too good.

OHw,

Perhaps this is a store by store decision or regional...I was informed when I enquired that it was from upper management, but that could mean regional.

It all depends on the store...they all have different goofy rules...but for the most part they are not too bad if you can ever find a gun that isn't way over priced...bu I keep looking as I have got some amazing deals through them..

My only experience is long in the past. I bought a San Marco 10 ga. O/U. The bottom barrel did not shoot where the gun was pointed. I liked the gun, the price was great, so I regulated the bad choke and kept it. I opened the chokes up a little for coarse steel shot (#1 through BBB) and lengthened the forcing cones too. Best long range shotgun I ever owned. Bagged geese with it yesterday. Would they have taken it back? Don't know. I wouldn't mind scoring another one for a special project. Roger's Mn. store.

That's my closest store. I like it but their stock of used guns has fallen off from what it was. I used to go once a month,(90 miles one way). Now it's twice a year. Last time I was there all I bought was some fudge. Haven't been since the merger.

OW,

Yep, definitely not what it used to be. It's a 55 mile trip one way for me too. I work near there fairly often so I stop by on the way home. It's never a bad thing to handle some guns after a long day at work. Breaks up my drive too. Once in a while I'll find one hell of a deal.

Dannypratt,

Got to adit back a few years I got a good deal on my new 28 gauge L.C. Smith Spanish made for Marlin double gun. Have been totally satisfied with it for years now.

Cabalas needs new management from the top down, as a sporting goods provider they have definitely gone down hill, sense the time I purchased my 28 Gauge from them.

I have some personal heart burn from Cabalas also, my cousin who ran the hunting lodge here in Monroeville lost his job due to a major illness.

When he came back to work he was allowed to work for about 15 days and then he was let go. We believe the company knew he was going to have more medical problems down the road, and let him go, not wanting future health problems/insurance costs.

This happened after 25 years of service to the company, and never missing any work until his Scott blood disease effected his health. Fortunately he was retirement age and had a nice savings. However due to the Pa employment laws, they got away with taking his job away, before he actually wanted to retire.

Doubt I will purchase from Cabalas ever again, just due to this incident, let alone all the mismanagement that is going on today.

New guy here from the Boise Idaho area.
We have a Cabela’s in Boise. It has gone down hill over the last several years. The decline started before BPS took over.
Tried to buy an old Beretta 20 O/U from them. Price was ridiculous. Thought maybe if I offered them a trade with a 28 gauge Beretta I had it would help. It only got worse.
Late last year I found a nice clean SKB 200E in the gun room for a good price. Talked them down another $100.00. Other than the fact they refuse to remove the lock the transaction went very well.
So mixed results for me.

Refused to remove the lock? That's just ridiculous. If you had intended harm, it would have already occurred. Silly paranoia. I would be reluctant to buy the gun from an outfit that basically assumes I may be a homicidal criminal.

WyoChukar,

This same thing crossed my mind also, I am the purchasing customer and when I want to inspect the gun the seller will not let me fully inspect the gun, because there are criminals in the world and the business thinks I might bet one.

Thanks for the insult, however keep you merchandise.
